News release: Grant to fund additional traffic enforcement in FY27 LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL (Oct. 22, 2026) — The Police Department will conduct additional traffic enforcement over the next 12 months with support from a federal Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The fiscal year 2027 effort to reduce accidents and save lives begins with an 11-day Halloween traffic safety campaign that will run from Oct. 23 to Nov. 2. “The federal grant helps us put additional officers on the street throughout the year to curtail driving behaviors that lead to serious crashes,” said Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees local enforcement programs. “We want our community to make responsible choices behind the wheel so everyone can get home safely.” Motorists in Lake in the Hills can expect increased patrols that enforce the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive High, Get a DUI” statewide campaigns during periods with a higher risk of serious crashes. Officers focus on halting impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving practices. “Driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or any other drug is a risky behavior that puts lives in jeopardy,” Miller said. For the upcoming Halloween campaign, LITH police will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies across the state in urging motorists to drive sober, buckle up and follow all traffic laws, especially when children are out trick-or-treating. Drivers should follow these tips to keep roads safe and not scary this Halloween: • Designate a sober driver, take public transit, use a ride-sharing service or call a sober friend or family member for a ride. • Walking while impaired can be just as dangerous as driving. Find a sober friend to walk you home. • Always wear a seat belt. It’s your best defense against impaired drivers and crashes. • If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so. • If you see an impaired person planning to drive, take their keys and help them find a safe way home.

Halloween is almost here! Trick-or-treating is allowed from 2 to 8 pm Saturday, Oct. 31. Residents giving out candy should turn their exterior lights on. Keeping front lights off is suggested to indicate your home is not a candy stop. Thank you for making the day fun and safe! 🧡

We’re grateful that our Police Department has received 15 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) valued at more than $20,000 from @savinglives to support our emergency response efforts throughout Lake in the Hills. An AED is a portable device that can detect certain life-threatening heart rhythms and restore a normal rhythm by delivering an electric shock through the chest. The device gives step-by-step voice instructions and will only deliver a shock when needed. Every LITH police vehicle is equipped with an AED. We also thank our local Firehouse Subs restaurant at 290 N. Randall Road and the generous donors who made this new equipment possible! It has strengthened our ability to be there for our community when it matters most. 💙 #PublicSafety #CommunityStrong #CharitableGiving

News release: LITH police join campaigns to boost child passenger safety LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL (Sept. 18, 2026) — The Lake in the Hills Police Department has joined the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies across the state in a 13-day child passenger safety campaign that started today and ends Sept. 30. The department is also partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for Child Passenger Safety Week that runs Sept. 20-26. During the campaigns, patrol officers are putting an emphasis on identifying child safety seat violations as well as enforcing all vehicle occupant restraint laws to enhance safety on local streets. “Unfortunately, many parents are overconfident and don’t realize their child may not be as safe in the vehicle as they think,” said Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees the local enforcement program. “Nearly half of all car seats are either installed incorrectly or the wrong seat for the child’s age and size. That puts kids at risk.” Free child car seat safety inspections and installations are available to Lake in the Hills residents by appointment at the Police Department, 2600 Village Hall Drive. Residents should call 847-658-5676 to speak with Community Service Officer Tom Muradian or email him at tmuradian@lith.org to schedule an appointment. “If a parent is unsure about the way they installed a car seat or they are wondering if it’s the right size, they shouldn’t hesitate to reach out and gain some peace of mind by having us inspect it,” Miller said.
