What lies, Richard? Be specific. Which BBC report was a lie? Which Channel 4 allegation was fabricated? Which Sky story was libellous? And what law exactly did these broadcasters supposedly break? Because shouting “LIES! LIBEL! LAWBREAKING!” is considerably easier than demonstrating any of it. Meanwhile, there are some rather inconvenient things about Reform and its donors for which there are actual receipts. Your shiny new £36 million benefactor, Ben Delo, isn't merely a successful entrepreneur being picked on by the nasty media. In 2022 he pleaded guilty in a US federal court to wilfully violating the Bank Secrecy Act by failing to establish and maintain the anti-money-laundering programme legally required at BitMEX. He agreed to pay a $10 million criminal fine and was sentenced to 30 months' probation. That's not a BBC invention. That's the United States Department of Justice. Donald Trump subsequently pardoned him in March 2025. Again, not Channel 4 gossip — the pardon appears in the US Justice Department's own records. Delo had already given Reform £4 million, accounting for roughly 75% of everything your party raised in that quarter. Now he's handed you another £36 million, reportedly the largest single political donation in British history. So spare us the wounded “anti-establishment” routine. When one billionaire can personally transform your party's finances with the stroke of a pen, you have your own billionaire establishment now. And perhaps you'd also like to explain why legitimate scrutiny of Reform's finances is apparently a “war”. Reform is currently the subject of a Metropolitan Police criminal investigation into alleged breaches of political-donation rules following an undercover investigation in which senior Reform figures were recorded discussing a proposed arrangement involving money originating with a US financier. Reform denies wrongdoing, no guilt has been established, and that's an important qualification. But the allegations were serious enough that James Orr and Dan Jukes were suspended, and serious enough for the police investigation to be widened. Nigel Farage is also separately under investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards over an undeclared £5 million gift from another crypto billionaire donor, Christopher Harborne. Farage says he did nothing wrong. Again: investigation isn't guilt. But reporting the existence of an investigation isn't “libel” merely because Reform doesn't like the story. And since we're talking about billionaire donors, let's look at the policies. Reform has proposed its Britannia Card, under which wealthy qualifying newcomers could pay £250,000 and receive a 10-year exemption from UK tax on overseas income, wealth and gains. Farage argues this would attract wealthy investors; critics describe it as an enormous tax concession for the rich. Does that prove Ben Delo handed you £36 million because he expects a personal tax break? No. And unlike you, I'm not going to invent motives I can't prove. But it makes questions about the relationship between enormous private fortunes, political donations and policies favourable to high-net-worth individuals completely legitimate. That's journalism's job, Richard. What you've apparently decided is that: Positive coverage = journalism. Critical coverage = lies. Investigation = persecution. Scrutiny = “war”. And that's rather convenient for a political party presently facing a police investigation into its funding arrangements while receiving £36 million from a billionaire with a previous federal criminal conviction who was subsequently pardoned by Donald Trump. So by all means accuse the BBC, Channel 4 and Sky of lying and breaking the law. Now show us the evidence. Because unlike your theatrical little rant, the stories about Delo's conviction, his pardon, Reform's donations and the investigations currently surrounding your party all come with receipts.
