On Monday I had the honour of performing in the @LEFFEST Lisboa Film Festival’s #MakeFreedomRing concert for Palestine at the @TivoliBBVA Theatre. Together we raised over €9000 for Doctors without Borders @MSF_Portugal which continues to perform hundreds of life saving operations and medical care in Gaza. I performed @connordnetto’s Witness (2024), dedicated to the journalists of Gaza, and introduced it with the following words: ‘Palestinian journalists continue to bravely risk their lives every day to report the crimes of the Israeli occupation forces, even as Israel labels them terrorists, actively targets and persecutes them in an effort to stop them documenting and broadcasting Israel’s atrocities to the world.   ‘On 2nd of November 2024, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported a staggering toll on journalists and media workers in Gaza, with 174 killed, and many more injured and detained by the Israeli occupation forces.   ‘The deliberate targeting of journalists is a war crime. Until now, Israel enjoys complete impunity for these violations of international law stretching back many years before the current genocidal onslaught on Gaza.   ‘In addition to the role of journalists to bear witness, the word Witness in Arabic is Shahid, which also means martyr.’ @InfoPJS @ochaopt #Lisbon #Portugal
