The New Yorker

By just about any metric except the obscene, record-setting amounts of cash that Donald Trump and a small circle of billionaires are spending to save the Republicans’ Senate majority, the upcoming midterms look like the wipeout that so many have predicted (and have so often been embarrassingly wrong about) since Trump first entered politics 4,147 days ago: historically low approval ratings, an unpopular war with Iran that has led to high prices and surging inflation, corruption so flagrant that two-thirds of Americans now believe he is profiting off the Presidency. “Most notably, Trump’s sagging popularity is not just with Democrats and independents, but with many Republicans in red states whose unwavering backing has, time and again, saved him during this insane past decade in American politics,” Susan B. Glasser writes. In her latest column, she writes about “the election that might spell the beginning of the end of Trump’s long, strange hold on the American electorate.” Read it here: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/ez…

More oil is leaving the Middle East now than before the war with Iran began, despite Tehran’s efforts to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Exports have climbed to more than 24 million barrels a day, up from 23.3 million before the war, as Saudi Arabia and the UAE ramp up pipelines that bypass the strait. But keeping the oil flowing comes at a steep cost, with shipping fees and war-risk insurance soaring as Iran continues to attack vessels. And one major escalation could throw the entire operation into chaos again. @ImtiazTyab reports.

When your parents spoke of the great depression suffering was real. The golden spoon politicians are simply clueless and do not care if the people can’t purchase heat or water let alone food.

Remember when they said to “Trust the science?” Artificial intelligence finds that a quarter million cancer research papers have been faked A 2026 study trained an AI on 2,202 cancer papers that had been identified as fake. It then applied this model to look into 2.65 million original cancer research papers published between 1999 and 2024. It flagged 261,245 papers as fake - Over 178,000 flagged papers had Chinese institutional affiliations - Roughly 36% of Chinese cancer research output in the dataset - Iran was next at around 20% This is a major problem because this can mean the medical community amplifies completely fake research and findings “Every fabricated study sitting in a real journal is competing for attention with studies actually pointing towards a legit cure, which means the more fake noise there is, the longer it takes for the real breakthroughs to surface. And somewhere in that pile, maybe a real cure is buried under a fake AI-generated one.” No doctors have gone to jail for this (I checked)
