Fulfilling a promise to my 8yo. He’d like to introduce some new characters to @sonic_hedgehog. After drawing Sonic and Tails, he added Fins, Swimmer, Claws, and Chomper. He especially thought Sonic needed some friends who can swim! More in thread…

One of my professors stopped putting pdfs of articles in the class Canvas. She explained that “because we’re reading scholarship of marginalized thinkers, it helps them to have their work searched and downloaded.” 🤯

There are really only two flaws with using tests to assess learning: Right answers often don’t reflect real understanding, and wrong answers often don’t reflect the absence of understanding. (Note that this is true of teacher-designed tests, not just the standardized kind.)

I think about two people going through the woods, one on a timed/high-stakes scavenger hunt, the other out exploring (perhaps with some markers along the way to guide). The first might “win” but will lose out on so much. I wish more students had the chance to explore.
Students are constantly feeling rushed. Before they’re able to master a skill or concept, they get assessed and are told to move on. It leads to high anxiety and a low sense of self worth. We need to worry less about “staying on pace” and care more about depth of understanding.

This book sounds fascinating! Adding it to my list. Thanks 😊
This arrived in the post today! So the purple book of the series is also out in the world. Thanks @rellypops for including me in the project. This was a fun and cheeky chapter to write.

Came across @DavidRosowsky and @CCAS_Dean's article about re-imagining university structures. Anyone at an institution with a different approach to organizational structure? Any creative ideas to share? #edleaders #highered #edchat #highereducation insidehighered.com/views/202…
