The University of Oxford has issued guidance telling staff to avoid everyday British phrases and idioms, such as “learn the ropes”, because they might confuse international students.
The guide advises writers to use “plain English” and avoid phrases such as “find your feet” and “blindspots”. It says: “Be mindful of idioms that may not be familiar to international readers or that may use stereotypes. Use common words, short sentences and familiar constructions.”
Speaking to The Sun, Free Speech Union General Secretary Lord Young of Acton said:
“Surely, one of the reasons international students come to Oxford is so they can immerse themselves in our culture and master colloquial English. What’s next? Is Oxford going to insist that all lectures have to be in Esperanto?”
It’s time universities paid more attention to their legal duty to protect free speech on campus, rather than policing the speech of their academics and students.

This French lady called the police when 3 people broke into her little shop, they were too busy & unable to help. When she returned a few hours later there was nothing left.... shes self employed & doesn't see a way through this.
Anyone that still believes these protests are students & its about education or even the cost of living..... why destroy small businesses & loot all the shops? The only people that would do this are those that dont give a toss about France

Liel's father has not spoken to her since the October 7th attack.
Three years without hearing his daughter's voice.
Why?
Because Liel Hetzroni (11) was murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7th.
"I'm just a girl, I have school!" Liel reportedly told Hamas.
They didn't care.
They murdered her in cold blood. It took investigators 6 weeks to identify her body. All that remained after Hamas burned the house down was ash and bone fragments.
Nearly 1,200 Jewish Israelis died that day.
Hamas turned Liel into ash. Her father Gavin Heller told news after her death that she was killed for one reason and one reason only: because they were Jewish.
"They just found remnants of Liel... initially they didn't have enough pieces to make a formal identification. They identified her literally by sieving the remnants," Gavin told news.
"This will unfortunately live with me for the rest of my life."
This is a true story.
Google it.

She made it! She couldn’t get a visa to Spain, but this warrior is now with us in Poland.
She survived an acid attack in Afghanistan. I invited her to join me and the brave Iranian women who were blinded by the Islamic Republic.
We will stand together on stage to send a clear message:
If the Taliban and the Islamic Republic are united in their war against women, then the women of Afghanistan and Iran are united in our fight for freedom.

I went on @BBCNewsnight and enraged all the usual radical-left loons stating these simple facts:
~1.85m foreign nationals claim £23 billion in welfare each year in Britain
~ 1.3m foreign nationals claim £11.9billion of Universal Credit
Britain must put the British people first
**Britains tax burden is the highest it’s been since the War (1948 to be exact)**
If you want to lift people up, you have to create wealth. You have to incentivise work. Which means tax them less.
Anyone who runs a business knows this.
Since then, far-left X has launched a series of ad-hominem attacks. Some even saying these ideas are “extreme far-right”
None of them have addressed the substance of my arguments.
Instead they are trying to shame me for being in one of the most successful bands of last 20 years, whilst ignoring that I have one of the biggest independent politics podcasts in Britain.
And ignoring that I’ve generated 10s of £millions in wealth and taxes for the economy, created 1000s of jobs, and built several successful companies.
Likewise they think that I might be anything but immensely proud to be associated with my own dad, one of the most successful businessmen and generous individuals this country has produced since the War, and his association with GB News, officially the most viewed and trusted news channel in the country.
He’s a hero.
Thanks to Newsnight for having me!

Pauvre Paris. Pauvre France.

Why can’t the British government care for the British people?
Your corrupt politicians have spent years sacrificing British girls to rape gangs, covering it up, and still pretend the problem is “far-right” instead of the imported jihadist death cult they refuse to name.
Now the same government is lecturing the world in Arabic…

In October 2023, I was invited to the Battle of Ideas. The pro Palestine marches had only just begun.
At one point, on my way there on the first day, some of the marchers spotted the crucifix around my neck and surrounded me, shouting, “After Saturday comes Sunday.”
It was the first time I had ever heard the phrase and I had no idea what it meant.
I know now.
It meant, “When we’ve finished with the Jews, we’re coming for the Christians.”
The following morning, on my way back to the Battle of Ideas, I passed the statue of Boudicca, a woman whose young daughters were raped by an invading army, and who, so enraged by what had been done to them and to her people, raised an enormous Celtic army, marched on Roman London and burned it to the ground.
Her statue now stands on Westminster Bridge, looking towards Parliament, a permanent reminder of what happens when a mother, and a people, are pushed beyond endurance.
That Sunday morning, Boudicca had been covered in flags and graffiti.
I was absolutely furious.
I tried desperately to climb up and pull them down myself, but the statue was simply too high. I asked people passing to help me, and a few tried, but none of us could reach them.
So, in a bit of a panic, I called @LozzaFox and told him what had happened.
Without a second thought he said, “I’ll be there in ten minutes with a ladder.”
And he was.
He didn’t actually have a ladder, as it turned out, so we commandeered one from a nearby stall, and without hesitation he climbed up and started pulling down the flags that had been draped over Boudicca.
I remember feeling physically sick looking at it, because this wasn’t some random statue to me. This was Boudicca, a woman and a mother whose daughters had been violated, who refused to submit quietly, and who became one of the most powerful symbols of resistance in British history.
She is the woman and mother many of us would hope we could become if, God forbid, our own children were ever harmed.
As I now watch what is happening across France, as I see images of Joan of Arc being desecrated, and watch ordinary people fighting against those trying to erase, vandalise and destroy the history and culture around them, I keep thinking back to that morning in London.
I remember the physical revulsion and genuine emotional upset I felt seeing one of our national heroes treated like that.
And I understand exactly why people are angry.
Our statues remind us of who we are and who we need to be. Tearing them down, desicrating them, vandelising them is telling you what they would happily do to you.

Sweden has officially banned cousin marriage.
Good 👏👏👏
This isn’t just some outdated tradition. It’s a practice that significantly raises the risk of serious genetic disorders in children.
Studies show first-cousin offspring face roughly double the chance of birth defects and recessive conditions compared to the general population.
Should the UK follow Sweden and ban cousin marriage?
