Animals also benefit from biomedical research, as medical research carried out on animals leads directly to veterinary treatments.
Vaccines now exist for fatal diseases such as feline leukaemia and canine distemper.
Advances in veterinary medicine have helped to reduce the loss of farm and herd animals to sickness and disease, saving livelihoods all over the world.
Vaccines and veterinary medicines are also used in conservation projects, helping protect endangered species by reducing the risk of disease.
Animal testing and animal experiments are also crucial for animal health and the progress veterinary discoveries.
There have been great advancements in non-animal technologies, such as a lab-grown dog skin, which has fully replaced the need to test certain veterinary treatments on animals in order to ensure the safety of these treatments to be used on animals en masse. These tests were crucial to understanding conditions of the skin, like dermatitis, for instance, and how to treat them. New replacement technologies will continue to phase in and reduce the number of animals in research.
On our website, you can find a long list of research involving animals that has created countless treatments for animals of all species: animalresearch.info/en/medic…
