Fans asking for Herbert to be traded deserve Ryan Leaf at QB. Nobody ever blamed Philip Rivers for going a decade not winning the AFC West and making it to playoffs just twice from 2010-2020.

0-4 should put Harbaugh firmly on the hot seat. But to exemplify the 0-4 start, the number of penalties this game shows a complete lack of discipline throughout the football team. The single most important job of a head coach is enforcing discipline across everything you do.

Discipline shows up in preparedness. It’s how you practice, watch film, and carry yourself outside the field. Average rosters that are disciplined can make playoffs. Good rosters who are undisciplined get people fired

It’s been 3 years and 3 games. Quentin Johnston is carrying 14 drops and caught 25 of 71 contested targets. That is abysmal for a big body guy.

Things are bleak. I firmly believe this team has a real shot at 0-9. It’s a tough schedule. They get the Jets as their next winnable game before another gauntlet vs Patriots, 49ers, Chiefs, Broncos. Real shot at a top-5 pick. $102M in cap space for a new GM/Coaching staff though

I’m joining @TheAthletic as their new Chargers beat writer. Today is my first day. The coming months promise to be a defining stretch for the franchise, and @danielrpopper left some big shoes. Let’s get going.

All you fans talking “JH is the problem” deserve the Browns QB situation. You’ve got one of the NFL’s most exciting players who takes responsibility even when it’s not his. Great teammate and person. Plays injured. I never once heard this slander when it was Rivers.

I’m tired of these hits being called dirty when the player should be sliding/giving himself up way earlier. The rule should be a slide protects the offensive player if it begins 5 yards before contact. Starting his slide when he does invites a penelty on a split second decision
Breaking 🚨 Kyler Murray is seriously injured during this DIRTY play by the Packers defense. He’s believed to be suffering with a serious neck injury, might be worse than Demar Hamlin’s injury scare..

I’ve trained myself to believe that all NFL teams are equal in talent. The delineation between winners/losers isn’t the better team. It’s the worse team. The most talented teams win easier, but more disciplined teams win more consistently. Discipline is a core. Component to wins

The second attribute to winning a game is literally just effort. The player who has more to play for. The more grit. The short: the want to be great is a willingness to do the dirty work to be great. This is passion and effort through and through. This radiates through a team.
This play will be shown in team meetings for football teams at all levels all week

Jacoby Brissett really has a good game and the Cardinals didn’t make mistakes. The Cardinals simply made the most of their opportunities, and made the plays when they needed to. I wanted to say the Chargers lost the game but that’s unfair. The Cardinals won this

Keenan Allen needs 48 receptions to move into 5th All-Time and 671 yards to move into 25th All-Time. He doesn’t have the All-Pros to his resume to make a run into the HOF, but career stats could get him in eventually. This is an important season for him to make his HOF case.

I’ll say this about Genesis Smith. While there’s missed tackles, it’s an over pursuit issue. He flys downhill to rushing lanes but doesn’t break down, pushing himself out of position. He wants hard hits. That can be fixed by being controlled with smart angles w/o wailing arms

I’ve made a pick whenever the Chargers were on the clock. Recorded it in my notes app. Do it again the next year. Wonder what this looks like in a few years.
