Sad day for nostalgia. Select has lost the licensing for the AFL.

Hello, my name's Daley. I'm a co-founder and director at Ludo Studio in Brisbane. You might know me as Thor's puny weak roommate Darryl, and from making Bluey at Ludo, I also created A24's Talk to Me with Danny and Michael Philippou. At Ludo, we also made Robbie Hood for SBS and, more recently, Thou Shalt Not Steal for Stan with Dylan River. Here's the first teaser poster for Allen, Netflix's first Australian feature film. It's also Ludo's first live-action feature film. I'd love to talk more about the film here soon, but just quickly - it's about a character who believes the best thing that ever happened to them has already happened. I know I'm too obsessed with the past. And too much of a good thing is a bad thing. I rewatch movies I loved as a kid, listen to old music and read old books and want to play the same board games I did when I was ten. I'm writing this while l at a graded, boxed Ninja Turtle toy I just got off eBay, sitting above my old HeroQuest and Nightmare board games, next to an unopened, mint-condition packet of Pocahontas SkyBox trading cards VGC. I spend a lot of time thinking about the past, and one thing in particular that happened to me a long time ago. I think I surround myself with all these things because they're a bit of a Portkey to get back there, while another part is trying very hard to grow up. We tried to make a film about that that everyone could watch together. I'd love to talk more about it soon but if you love Cheezels, this is for you. We made the whole film here on the coasts here in Queensland - even in Coolum. I'm incredibly grateful to Netflix for giving us the opportunity to make it here - and set it here too. We got to work with so many brilliant Australian creatives, in front of and behind the camera, from caters, to transport to costume and make-up and puppeteers to VFX artists and produces and an extraordinary local crew. To create this with them has been one of the best parts of the whole thing. I'd love to talk more about it and especially the people who brought it to life, here soon. In the meantime, here's our first teaser poster. Thanks so much for reading. Sincerely. – at Brisbane, Queensland

After a decorated 24-year run at ESPN, Nicole Noren resigned in protest. She couldn’t go along with the network’s all-out embrace of gambling. For the first time publicly, in @CJR, Noren shares the deeply personal reasons behind her decision. cjr.org/the-interview/nicole…

Usually I'm the one writing about AI. But recently, the tables were turned. Someone sent me a link to an 89-page book about "redefining living through Cam Wilson teachings", seemingly made by AI So, I bought it. Once it arrived, things got even weirder

I think Anthony De Ceglie has stepped down as Perth Bears CEO. Can’t be sure though.

Imagine Boeing's CEO saying the world should accept a few plane crashes to get faster innovation in aviation. He'd be gone by lunch.
“We believe the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology.” In a conversation for the first edition of Decoded, a new daily newsletter and podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman talked with POLITICO’s @BrendanBordelon about trade-offs, AI safety, and how his company is different from Anthropic. Dear lord, he doesn't realise his foot is facing the wrong way until he tries to stand on it xitter.cf/nrlphysio/status/21068…
Another hip drop, another fractured + dislocated ankle. This one shows how dangerous it can be even if landing on the turf first. I think a big part of why it’s become more common is because it’s the most effective way to stop a ball carrier in their tracks. The alternative is keeping the chest on the back of the legs & sliding down - the risk is greater they fall off the tackle.

The Paddo watch party they keep cutting to after Roosters tries is just a bunch of people at a pub where the footy happens to be on the telly #NRLGF

Charlie Cameron now just 10 goals off being the most prolific finals goalkicker since the turn of the millennium. Better average and accuracy in finals. Big game player.

A record for audience this AFL season on ABC Sport digital articles, with a new record set for our GF blog. September marks the fourth month in a row going over 20m page views, the first time we’ve ever don’t that. (Don’t tell my Media Watch mates about the footy coverage)

We blogged every single game and a whole heap of side shows - of everything we did live in the AFL season, can anyone guess which one blog saw the most page views, at close to 700,000?

Should have won the Norm. A lot of great performers in that game, but Ashcroft changed the game. Not Dusty 2020, more subtle than that, but I’m surprised AFL legends didn’t acknowledge it.
We are witnessing one of the greatest finals performers of all time. Will Ashcroft spearheads a four goal turnaround in time on for a famous three-peat 🦁

I don’t think I’ve seen a team as clutch as these @brisbanelions. The Hawks and Lions threepeaters before them - they were dominant. These Lions don’t dominate. They kill right at the last moment. The 24’ SF & PF. The 26’ PF & GF. In close games, brilliant games, they just win.

Have just rewatched this. Ryan Lester’s pressure on Amiss to effect the handball, before the D50 rebound, is just as important as Treacy pressure in the goal square. If Amiss hits Treacy there it’s a score

This is superb piece to produce so quickly: “There wasn't time for Fremantle to process what was happening to them. Suddenly, and without warning, they were bystanders in what was meant to be their own story.”
