We've now had 2 employees in 2 months quit without giving 2 weeks notice. And look, nobody can force you to stay. But I genuinely think how you leave people matters. Commitments matter. Reputation matters. You don't get to treat every relationship as disposable just because you technically can.

For our next team meetup, I don’t just want someone to point a camera at me. I want them to bring the questions. Explain what we’re trying to get. Think about why someone would watch it. I’ll show up. I’ll talk. I’ll give them the material. But if I have to invent the entire thing again, I’m still doing the job I thought I had help with.

After 10 years, I'm over living in Eastern Europe. Not a hot take. Just what it looks like once the novelty is gone and you're raising a kid there. youtu.be/k-opFk4aP18

Joe makes commercial bounce houses and water slides. Two-person company, shipping out of Texas. He hired Frank: 20 hours a week, $1,300 a month, about 70% less than a US hire. Joe's best line: "I could come back a day or two later and they would just be done." 📍 hire-ua.com/case-studies/big…

One of the hardest parts of quitting drinking was losing my off-switch. I used to finish work, pour a glass of wine and sit outside with my family. Work was done. Now I close the laptop at 5pm and I'm still chewing on some stupid business problem at 10pm. The only thing that really clears my head is golf. Great, except it takes 5 hours to hit a little white ball into a slightly bigger hole. Nobody tells you about this part.

One of the biggest Founder mistakes is expecting employees to care as much as you. They won’t. And they shouldn’t have to. But there is a minimum amount of give-a-shit required for a company to work. That’s the line you actually need to hire for.

My rough rule for giving a team member a company card: set the limit at about one month of their salary. Mine are usually around $1,000. If someone is willing to torch their job to steal one month of pay, I've lost a number I can live with and found out exactly who I hired. Never actually had anyone do it. But I'd much rather cap the damage and hand over the card than have every $40 purchase run through me.

The math I give Founders before they hire an SDR: Cold lead to booked call runs 3-5%. Maybe 7% if the list is excellent. Give them 100 leads. Expect 2 or 3 booked calls. Maybe 1 deal. Run it for a month before you judge anyone. And make them follow the script. If a new Rep is redesigning your process in week two, you no longer know whether the process failed or the Rep did.

You can spend your time explaining why AI is going to fall apart. Or you can find out which annoying parts of running your business it can handle today. I’m getting an absurd amount of work done with it. Aren’t you even a little curious about what you could stop doing yourself?

We've recorded thousands of sales calls with founders & biz owners since 2022. One thing shows up constantly: the Founder arrives with a list. One wants a Media Buyer, an Appointment Setter, an Accountant, a Copywriter and a Video Editor. Another had a full roadmap: Personal Assistant, Marketing Director, Investor Relations Manager, Fund Manager, Legal Advisor, Accountant. By the end of both calls the plan was the same. Start with one. A list of five roles usually means you haven't decided which problem is costing you the most money. Pick that one. Fill it. See what breaks next.

A four-hour meeting takes up almost three 90-minute work blocks. Before you accept it, think about what you could finish in those blocks. The meeting might still be worth it. But “it’s only one meeting” is a pretty incomplete way to count the cost.

The models didn't suddenly get smarter. The interfaces did. It feels like iMessage, not like fighting Google permissions for an hour.

If you play golf once a year, you probably won’t be as good as someone who plays every day. Recruiting works the same way. You hire when someone leaves or the business needs another person. We do this every day. You can absolutely do it yourself. But don’t budget your time as if you’re already good at something you rarely do.

Some people hear “business owner” and immediately picture Bezos. Not someone trying to make payroll. Not someone a couple of bad months from shutting down. Not someone who took a chance on building something and is still trying to make it work. Be angry at Amazon if you want. But the guy running a small business isn’t fucking Amazon.

A client agreed to hire a candidate through us. Terms agreed, contracts ready. Then the client vanished. Completely ghosted. I posted about it, and people seriously told me MY company should pay the candidate's salary for six months. Brother. I run a recruiting company. We didn't employ him. We never agreed to pay anyone. Some people think every small business has a Scrooge McDuck money vault in the basement.

Most European cities have a pretty old town. Walk ten minutes outside of it and you're in a parking lot. After years of living and driving around over here, six cities still hold up once you leave the postcard. youtu.be/rG6z6lW0Wb4

You quit 2 weeks into the job. You tell me you're starting your new job next week. Then you say: “I can work this week, but I need Monday and Tuesday off.” Brother. You don't need Monday and Tuesday off. You need to leave.
