I posted a black square last summer & was completely engulfed into Identity Politics & Wokeism. This was just last July… it’s absolutely amazing what can happen when you begin educating yourself, admit you were wrong & allow the old you to die. If I can do it, so can you.

The most important briefings of the day.
Karl Deisseroth, professor of bioengineering and of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, shares the news of his Nobel Prize with his kids.

It was a matter of when, not if this Nobel would happen. Awesome to see it.
It is worth noting that @KarlDeisseroth lab shared optogenetic tools far and wide from the very beginning, and thereby facilitated so much discovery. Fun fact: Karl was the first guest ever on the HLP.
BREAKING NEWS
The 2026 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel “for their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.”

Congratulations to our first #NobelPrize laureate of 2026 🎉
Early this morning Karl Deisseroth found out he was awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
He seems very happy with the news!

Pain teaches us two things: 1. What’s worth sacrificing for 2. Who we are when life doesn’t go our way

Spinoza offers a powerful perspective:
God and nature are one...Deus sive Natura.
He argues that nature itself is divine, and the patterns and laws we uncover through reason and science are expressions of God’s very essence.
So by engaging with these patterns, we come closer to the divine.
This view unites faith and reason, dissolving the conflict between spirituality and science.

I watched an old video from the 90’s where these two piano scholars were talking about the genius of Beethoven. They said he was genius, but couldn’t write a proper chord progression to save his life. After hearing that, then listening to Beethoven, I cannot unhear it now.

If you don't "go for it," you will feel the pain in your 40s. It will be depressing. No sense in lying. If you failed, that stings less. And you usually figure it out via iterating. Knowing you didn't even try, when time is accelerating (goes faster with each decade)...

This all-or-nothing framework that everyone’s living in is all fucked up.
You’re eating well and working out for 30 days, and you’re crushing it. Then you go out with your buddies, eat like shit, and don’t work out for 2 days.
You decide, “I fucked up. I wasted the last 30 days.”
You didn’t. And that’s how people are living life. You’ve gotta change your mind.

Schrödinger’s cat is not a real experiment, but a thought experiment, which means it is only imagined and not actually performed. Erwin Schrödinger came up with it to show the absurdity of applying quantum mechanics to everyday objects, such as cats. He did not intend to suggest that cats can be both alive and dead at the same time.
