Alexander Volkanovski on fight day while dealing with a chest infection:
“I’m sick, but the fight would be too easy if I felt too good anyway.”

I'm sure it's been said, but it just occurred to me that both Yan and Volk are in their second reigns, picking up emphatic title defenses in divisions where age is not kind to you. What we're seeing from these two is not normal. Two special fighters.

Volkanovski, skill-for-skill, is a top-5 fighter all-time.
So few holes in his game

I admittedly know next to nothing about cricket, Aussie rules football, or rugby, but I have a question for the Australians out there:
Is it fair to put Alexander Volkanovski in the pantheon of Australia’s greatest athletes, alongside legends like Rod Laver and Ian Thorpe?
Because from where I’m sitting, Volk has earned his place in that conversation.
YES

I dont think you realise what Volk beating Movsar means.
Movsar is the young, hungry, undefeated ELITE talent. In the Story he's meant to win there and be the new champ.
Volk was STILL too much for him, STILL too elite.
Alex Volkanovski is a TOP 3 GOAT. No discussion.
Our entire selection panel, headed by George Bailey, are utterly incompetent. You can apply the same criticism to 95% of the senior employees at Cricket Australia, especially Todd Greenberg. Worrying times ahead.
Pleasing to see fans focus on the Australian selectors, rather than Nic Maddinson.
He was thrown in the deep end, against the tide, and asked to swim safely to shore.
My piece: Maddinson's 33-ball duck exposes selectors and defies logic. 👇

If you wondered how Maddinson might go considering all these circumstances, a 33-ball duck is about what you’d expect

The two people who were supposed to provide testimony backing up one of McGregor’s key claims before his appeal trial have been formally charged with perjury.
Samantha O’Reilly and Stephen Cummins have appeared in court charged with perjury during Conor McGregor’s civil appeal.
They made no reply after caution.
They have been granted bail and are due in court again in November.

DoorDash reportedly spent $1.4 million trying to stop Mamdani from becoming NYC Mayor, only for him to win and force them to pay $131.5 million for underpaying 264,000 delivery workers
That's around 100 times what they spent against him

Sean Sharaf called Gable Steveson a rapist and then one-punch KO'd him as a +1100 underdog.
Doesn't matter what happens after this. He owns that dude for life.

John McCain is the man most responsible in Congress in getting the original Ali Act passed.
I asked him 10 years ago if he'd support extending the Ali Act to MMA. "Absolutely," he told me.
Seems noteworthy the architect of the Ali Act wanted it *extended*, not gutted.
Today, we will mark up the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act, which now has stronger protections for fighters thanks to our work with Nico Ali Walsh. Nico cares deeply about protecting fighters and the future of boxing.
Originally opposed to the bill, he came before the Committee and raised concerns about boxer safety. At that hearing, I made clear that I wanted stakeholders who had concerns to work with me to strengthen the legislation.
Nico answered that call. He took time away from his own career to work directly with our offices and push for stronger protections for fighters. His input helped shape meaningful improvements to the bill, and the final product is stronger because of his involvement.
I’m grateful for the work Nico put into this and for his commitment to making sure this legislation works for the fighters whose careers and livelihoods are on the line.
Sen. Rosen and I are proud to have the support of a fighter who has advocated fiercely for his peers and worked to make sure legislation bearing his grandfather’s name is worthy of that legacy.
