We pay tribute to Diana Mwikali,a woman with disability, who lost her life during child birth. Diana, whose life was cut short in her prime is not the only one we have lost, and painfully we ask many questions; #BreakTheBias #maternalhealthrights

Last week, with support from @IDA_CRPD_Forum, we joined different women's rights organisations in Geneva for the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) review of Kenya’s 9th Periodic Report 🇰🇪. Together with @UDPKenya and @WCCKenya, the Network, represented by @fatuma_mohamed3, @nondo_kenya and @KENYANATIONALD3, we presented a shadow report highlighting gaps in the realisation of the rights of women and girls with disabilities and calling for accountability, inclusion and meaningful participation. Nothing about us without us!✊🏾#CEDAW #DisabilityRights #GenderEquality

This week in Budalangi, Busia @040County, under @DisabRightsFund grant, we trained persons with disabilities, a majority being women with disabilities on understanding and applying Kenya’s Disability Rights Framework. The session focused on Article 54 of the Constitution and the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2025, with emphasis on equality, dignity, accessibility, reasonable accommodation, participation and protection from discrimination and abuse. Participants also learned how to identify and document rights violations, report abuse, seek redress and engage duty bearers at county and community levels. Knowledge of rights is a powerful tool for inclusion and empowerment. The trained participants will share this knowledge with other women and girls with disabilities in their communities. #DisabilityRights #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

With the funding support of @DisabRightsFund, we held a session in Meru County to assess the functionality, progress and impact of three key disability structures: the Meru County Persons with Disabilities (PWD) structure, the Persons with Disabilities SACCO and the PWD Board. The session provided an opportunity to examine how these structures operate, the extent to which they are fulfilling their mandates and their contribution towards advancing the rights, inclusion and socio-economic empowerment of persons with disabilities. We also reflected on progress made over time, while identifying the challenges and barriers that continue to affect the effectiveness of these structures. The experiences from Meru will contribute to strengthening advocacy and disability-inclusive governance at the county level.

Through our Network member @KENYANATIONALD3, with funding support from @DisabRightsFund,we are currently working on advancing inclusive healthcare in Kitui County 🏥- working to ensure that persons with disabilities, especially women and girls, can access health services with dignity, safety and without barriers. This work will assess health care accessibility and generate evidence to strengthen disability-inclusive and gender-responsive health services. We call on health stakeholders, policymakers, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and communities to listen, act and work alongside persons with disabilities to build health services that are accessible and inclusive to all. #InclusiveHealthcare

We held a Community Resource Mapping Engagement that brought together parents, teachers and students from Nairobi, Nyeri, Kajiado and Kiambu Counties for meaningful conversations and experience sharing. The engagement builds on the activities we have been implementing through our members @FedwenKenya @WCCKenya and @RuralWomenVoices CBO across the counties, through which we continue to raise awareness about disability inclusion and highlight the important role that parents, teachers and communities play in supporting the lives, development and participation of young persons with disabilities, especially women. The session provided an opportunity for participants to share their experiences, identify existing resources and support systems and discuss ways of strengthening collaboration among families, schools and communities to promote greater inclusion and participation.
