We are glad that we were represented by our staff member, @Blebre12 as a panelist at the Fourth Women’s Land Rights Conference held on 15–16 October 2026 under the theme “Transforming Harmful Practices and Social Norms: Advancing Women’s Land Rights.” During the panel discussion, @Blebre12 emphasized the importance of recognizing the land rights of local women who cultivate land belonging to their fathers or husbands to sustain their livelihoods and provide for their children. She called for customary practices to recognize and protect these women’s rights to the land they depend on, acknowledging their contribution to household welfare, food security, and community development. We remain committed to advocating for women’s secure access to, control over, and ownership of land while challenging harmful social norms and customary practices that undermine women’s land rights.

Rural women are at the heart of our communities, driving agriculture, sustaining livelihoods, supporting families and contributing to local economies. Yet many continue to face barriers to accessing digital technologies, information, markets and economic opportunities. At WOUGNET, we believe digital inclusion is essential to ensuring rural women are not left behind. Through digital literacy, improved connectivity and access to technology, we are working towards a future where rural women can access information, strengthen their livelihoods and participate meaningfully in the digital economy. Today, we celebrate their resilience, leadership and contributions while reaffirming our commitment to bridging the digital gender divide. When rural women are connected, communities thrive. #InternationalDayOfRuralWomen #RuralWomen #DigitalInclusion #DigitalGenderEquality #WomenEmpowerment #WOUGNET

WLRs must translate into meaningful access, ownership, control & participation in decisions over land and natural resources. As highlighted in Dr @MRugadya ‘s keynote at the #4thWLRConf26, advancing these rights requires intentional action, political will &community-led change
Women’s Land Rights Must Go Beyond Registration to Meaningful Control. At the 4th Women’s Land Rights Conference, Dr Rugadya Margret delivered the keynote address, challenging stakeholders to look beyond women’s representation in land governance and address the realities that shape women’s ability to access, use, manage and control land and natural resources. Her address highlighted the need to address cultural barriers, strengthen the enforcement of women’s land rights, make land registration more accessible and ensure women have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting community resources. Securing women’s land rights requires intentional action, political will and community-led change. Women must be recognised not only as users of land, but also as decision-makers whose rights and contributions are essential to equitable and sustainable resource management. #4thWLRConf26 #WomensLandRights #LandRights #S4HL @MRugadya @Stand4herlandUg @Stand4HerLand @ministry_lands @Landesa_Global @NRC_Norway

Climate change is deepening a global health inequality: the countries least responsible for the crisis are often experiencing its gravest consequences. A just response must direct more climate finance toward the communities and health systems facing the greatest risks. This means investing in resilient primary health care, a prepared health workforce and locally led solutions that protect essential services before, during and after climate shocks. #AmrefAtUNGA81 #UNGA81 #ClimateWeekNYC @theGCF @wellcometrust

Our Executive Director, @TumuheirweFlo1 participated in the Kigezi FY2027/28 Local Government Budget Consultation as the CSO Representative for CSBAG held at Agaba Centre and organised by @mofpedU @CSBAGUGANDA. During the engagement, she joined the panel discussion and highlighted the need to shift from budgeting for inputs to budgeting for local economic results and to move from financing administration to financing local economic transformation. She further emphasised the importance of strengthening equalisation mechanisms for less developed and disadvantaged regions to address disparities in economic capacity and service delivery, noting that fiscal decentralisation should not reinforce existing regional inequalities. She also stressed the need to put citizens at the centre of development by ensuring that they are not only beneficiaries of government programmes but also actively participate in identifying priorities and monitoring programme results, with community priorities originating at the village, parish and sub-county levels and informing district development plans and budgets. She further called for economic growth to be measured beyond GDP and national budget figures, with greater focus on whether growth is improving the lives and livelihoods of poor households, young people and other vulnerable citizens.
