She gets criticized when she shoots. Criticized when she passes. Criticized when she celebrates. Criticized when she stays quiet. People minimize her accomplishments, dissect every mistake, and somehow even her popularity gets held against her. Caitlin Clark is putting up 35 POINTS and 11 ASSISTS, making history AGAIN, and what are certain media personalities glorifying at halftime? Angel Reese rebounding the basketball. They even broke down an Indiana Fever play that CAITLIN CREATED and somehow praised everybody involved EXCEPT HER. So yes, I’m going to ask the uncomfortable question: If Caitlin Clark were Black or gay, would certain members of the media be this determined to downplay what she’s doing? And before my own people come for me — I DON’T CARE. I’m a Black man. I get called a coon, Uncle Tom, Uncle Ruckus, and get accused of hating Black women simply because I refuse to stay quiet about what I’m watching. Call me whatever you want. I will not participate in diminishing a young woman who has done NOTHING TO ANYBODY because some ignorant people in her fanbase behaved badly. CAITLIN CLARK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HER FANS. We cannot demand that Black women not be judged by the actions of other people and then turn around and judge Caitlin Clark by the actions of random fans she doesn’t know and cannot control. That is hypocrisy. Angel Reese deserves her flowers for being an elite rebounder. Rebounding matters. But Caitlin Clark is doing things that have NEVER HAPPENED IN WNBA HISTORY, and somehow THAT gets treated like ordinary basketball. IT IS NOT ORDINARY. SHE IS SPECIAL. Forget whether you like me.
