Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić made some Real Madrid players look far better than they actually are.
Since Kroos retired and Modrić left, Vinicius Jr, Camavinga, Tchouaméni and Valverde haven't looked the same. The last time we saw a truly world-class version of Vinicius was when Kroos was still wearing a Real Madrid shirt.
People underestimate how much Kroos and Modrić controlled games, dictated the tempo and made everyone around them better.
Real Madrid's history, prestige and PR machine also play a role in how people perceive their players. Put on that famous shirt, win a few trophies, and suddenly everyone is labelled world-class.
Kroos and Modrić were the maestros who elevated the players around them. Without them, we're seeing a different reality, and I don't think some of these Madrid players are as good as people made them out to be.

Football Twitter has a very short memory, and the Vinícius situation proves it.
During his contract renewal, Vini knew his value and used every bit of leverage he had. He stood firm on his demands despite claiming how much he loved the club, and eventually Madrid agreed.
Fair enough. But now comes the other side of that deal: JUSTIFY THE PAY.
The same people now saying, “Vini needs our love and support to get back to his best” — where was that energy when negotiations were difficult? How many of you backed the club when he reportedly rejected their offer? Most were saying, “Pay him what he wants.”
Now the performances aren’t matching the demands and suddenly criticism is unfair?
Maybe the truth is simple: we’re all hypocrites on this app when it suits us.
