Well, actually, weight gain on the pill is the same as with a copper IUD. And studies about the risk of depression are conflicting, but there is this thing called absolute risk and that is what matters. And if pregnancy were a medication it would have a black box warning.

Hormonal birth control makes you fat, doubles risk of depression & triples risk of suicide. This is the clear scientific consensus, but very few people seem to know it.
