What does Joseph Kabila's return mean for #DRC's war? In a new post for @AfricaDemocracy with Ben Muhoza and @jimkamene , we argue how his return gives the rebellion greater political ambition, but how this delivery leaves many open questions democracyinafrica.org/the-re… (1/5)
Kabila faces major political obstacles. His authoritarian legacy and association with Rwanda-backed M23 limit his national appeal. His return also complicates prospects for national dialogue: including him is controversial, but excluding him could undermine peace efforts. (4/5)
Lastly, kabila's arrival could also sharpen internal M23 tensions, particularly between those focused on eastern Congo and those seeking regime change in Kinshasa. Read the full post here: democracyinafrica.org/the-re… (5/5)
It's been a number of years since this happened; but another Rwandan dissident killed in Uganda - this time in a particularly gruesome manner, through beheading. #Uganda #Rwanda
The murder of Sgt Maj Robert Kabera, an Ex-Rwandan soldier on asylum protection in Uganda, marks the first known incident since Uganda and Rwanda normalised relations in 2022.
Targeting of Rwandans in Uganda triggered tensions between the two countries.

Following searches of residences belonging to the Tshisekedi family over allegations of money laundering, President Tshisekedi instructed his cabinet to avoid any direct or indirect contact with the Belgian Embassy in the #DRC.
I wrote this piece long before this war broke out arguing that Emirati land grabs in Sudan are about much more than food security but rather a strategy of empire-making and sub-imperial ambition in the region. It is based on research in the Gezira from 2013-2018

Fascinating and very necessary report by @peer_schouten on how the war in Eastern #DRC also is about regional trade control-with excellent graphs, such as the two below, showing how Eastern DRC has become an economic lifeline for its neighbouring countries diis.dk/en/research/congos-r…
That very much looks like an AI photograph.. #Uganda

The fact is that Africa's most powerful military bombed a bunch of poor, defenseless civilians trying to scratch an existence out of the earth. The cruel irony is that much of they gold they were laboring to mine was going to pass through Egyptian middlemen to the benefit of the Egyptian economy. This comes as Egypt claims to be defending Sudanese interests on the world stage and within the Quad and Quint, but that should not mean that Egypt can bomb Sudan and its citizens with impunity. Longterm Sudan has to get out from under the shadow (thumb?) of Cairo. Despicable stuff. nytimes.com/2026/10/12/world…

This is absolutely crazy. Joseph Kabila has joined the AFC/M23 — which is changing its name to the Front pour la Refondation de la Nation.
The peace process is presumably well and truly dead.

Ukrainian strikes on Yandex data centers offer an unexpected natural experiment in how Russian infrastructure sustains online influence operations. Early bot-traffic data is striking. Claims of a collapse in pro-AfD and pro-MAGA amplification need/deserve verification.
