On May 30, 2025, Sharmistha Panoli, a young law student from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, was arrested from her Delhi home by Kolkata Police. No prior notice. No summons. No due process. Her crime? She posted an Instagram video in response to a Pakistani troll who denied the horrific Pahalgam massacre, where 26 Hindus were murdered after being identified by their religion. Yes — she used strong words. Yes — she lashed out emotionally. And yes — she apologized. But that wasn’t enough. The full weight of the state machinery came crashing down on her — for words. Meanwhile, those who spill blood walk free. Where Was This Outrage When Hindus Were Beheaded? Let us rewind. - Kanaiya Lal, a Hindu tailor in Udaipur, was beheaded in 2022 for supporting Nupur Sharma. His murderers filmed the act and justified it with religion. Some are now out on bail. - Kamlesh Tiwari, another Hindu voice, was stabbed and shot in broad daylight — for allegedly insulting Islam years ago. - Hindus across the country receive daily death threats for voicing opinions. No arrests. No FIRs. No Kolkata Police showing up in the night. Where is your justice now? Where is your Section 295A then? Why is it that only when one community’s sentiments are hurt, the law becomes a raging lion, but when Hindus are raped, butchered, insulted, or burned alive, the same law becomes a toothless mouse? Judiciary: Are You Blind, Deaf, and Selective? This is not a question of religion. This is a question of hypocrisy, cowardice, and judicial apartheid. - When M.F. Husain painted Hindu goddesses nude, he was celebrated — not jailed. - When Zakir Naik called Ganesha a god who “cannot protect himself,” he was given state protection. - When Asaduddin Owaisi talks about taking down the system with 15 minutes of police inaction, he gets prime time — not prison time. But when a young Hindu girl reacts emotionally to terrorist apologists, she is dragged out of her home and jailed? This is not justice. This is appeasement in the garb of secularism. And to the judiciary — the final pillar we’re told to trust — how dare you grant bail to killers of Kanaiya Lal, but allow a 23-year-old girl to be jailed over a video? Are you so blinded by fear of one community that you’ve decided Hindus don’t deserve protection anymore? What We Demand — Now We, the people of India, demand: 1. Immediate release of Sharmistha Panoli and quashing of all charges. 2. Judicial accountability for the inconsistent application of hate speech and blasphemy laws. 3. An independent probe into the procedural abuse by Kolkata Police. 4. A clear stance from the judiciary on equal application of laws — not based on religion, vote bank, or fear of backlash. India Is Not Your Banana Republic We will not sit quiet while one religion is allowed to burn this country down with slogans of “sar tan se juda”, while the other is imprisoned for speaking up against terror. If free speech is a crime — arrest every comedian, every writer, every imam, every bishop, and every loudmouth TV anchor who’s ever offended Hinduism.
