The reading situation is so bad we need to start taking any victory we can get, no matter how small. If FanFic is the only thing we can get people to read, that's still preferable to not reading at all
Right wing doomsayers will be the first to tell you the world is going to hell because people are stupid and illiterate.
Somehow they are also complaining about people engaging with fan fiction because its an "inferior" art form.
Strongly considering completely nuking my readership of Undying Emperor because I want to write Act 8 from a different PoV.
I think it would be neat to show what it's like when Lucius is on the OTHER side of the war.

We don't need to "fix" Harry Potter - @MichaelFKane is right. But the rest of you creatives need to write stories with Malfoid-like characters in it because there's obviously a huge supply problem!
I think all the folks out there saying that Malfoid 'fixes' Harry Potter are overshooting the target a bit. Harry Potter's intended audience is middle grade. Middle grade audiences don't really need high drama, will they won't they romances with oodles of yearning.
Listen guys. J.K. Rowling hit her target so squarely on the head so hard that she has swimming pools of money. Maybe even literally.
I know a lot of you grew up reading it (I didn't. I've admitted that) and still love it. But the thing is, you're not middle grade readers any more so your tastes and opinions on fiction have changed since then.
Malfoid changes the target audience and genre. Malfoid probably would NOT have made J.K. Rowling eleventy billion dollars.

So have your fun. Enjoy the cultural moment. (Especially the screams of the lefties that abandoned Potter and are feeling left out right now) But maybe realize that Joan knew what she was doing and who she was writing for. 😅

The thing that always bugs me about these "breakthroughs" is that it ignores why we use plastic in the first place.
Could you imagine buying a gallon of milk and a week later it tastes like cactus? A gas station snickers bar that has melted through its own wrapper?
E-thots cosplaying Malfoid are just making a devil's bargain for engagement.
Maybe one day Grok actually will analyze posts for quality and de-rate this kind of attention whoring.
I think I'm watching in real time as the Malfoid "fandom" fractures right down the middle.
It's actually entirely different stories whether you tell it from Harry's perspective of redeeming Malfoid with love...
Or you tell it from her PoV and crank the patheticness to 11.
I have my hopes up for the Space Mercenary Isekai... but the animators are treating space ships like planes and its bugging the shit out of me.
What's most remarkable to me about the Malfoid situation is that nobody has been able to say "oh this is the dynamic from X" aside from the one fanfiction.
Ive seen LWA comparisons but its not quite a fit.

Sullen himecut goth Goyle, Crabbe unchanged or at least made less stupid early on. Crabbe simp for Malfoid early on, Goylefoid quietly simp for Crabbe and quietly building seethe at Malfoid despite being friends with her. Minions become couple later on. You get all the boxes tick
Well this reached a level of response where the notifications tab isn't even showing me all the responses anymore.
More interesting responses are coming in than I can keep up with responding to.
Malfoid has me wondering how to adjust Crab and Goyle. If you make them all girls it would emasculate Harry as a character. If you leave them mere goons it makes Malfoid look pathetic.
