Our hearts go out to the #risbergskaskolan community and all of Örebro today. There's a lot we still don't know yet, but we do know the survivors have a long road ahead of them. The US survivor community sends all its love and support. To all of Sweden: You are not alone. 🇸🇪💖

Today marks 11 years since 12 were killed in the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard. In this time of continued and retraumatizing gun violence, remember today – and every day -- those who died, and their families, loved ones and colleagues.

As a Hokie, sending love and support to all connected to the @uva community. Regardless of where you were on campus, take time to reach out to friends, fellow professors students and family. Healing has just begun. This will take time, many of us will always be here to support.
Update: Police have the suspect in custody. I’m grateful to law enforcement for their extraordinary work in this search. Here is a link to today’s press conference: youtu.be/ck4EjrJq7Fs?t=107 We will be working with student leaders today to plan for a community vigil.

The media will pack up out of Uvalde, Texas. The majority of the country will move on, but Uvalde won't have that privilege. There's a lot of things the world doesn't see in the aftermath of a school shooting after those first few weeks. A thread by someone who has lived it.

School safety and wellbeing is a year-round issue. Parents watching the news and wondering how to help in your community, this is a good time to watch the communication from your child’s school in regards to the importance of safety and emergency preparedness.

“It’s unthinkable all over again.” Today I had the chance to speak with @MicheleGay_ who lost her daughter Joey at Sandy Hook Elementary. She talked about the shooting in Texas and how the pain is still fresh 10 years later. @NBC10Boston

Want some actual sanity? Look at what a Va Tech survivor did w/ her life. koshkafoundation.org/ @Koshka4Schools @KoshAnderson This woman actually knows things & works to make #NeverAgain a reality. Sometimes your high school friends become actual heroes. No one should have to.

We must commit to supporting, healing, and working together to prevent future tragedies. We must remember to put our arms around the Uvalde families, and also the students and teachers who will go home with life-changing memories, and the first responders, doctors and nurses.

I started receiving short emojis, and then texts, before I learned what happened today in Texas. My heart is with Uvalde community tonight, and for a long time. Please remember, this tragedy is just beginning for the families.
