Two amazing women transporting rescue dogs from Turkiye for Homeward Bound Rescue lost their lives in a tragic accident on the motorway in Romania, along with 9 out of the 10 dogs on board ๐ข๐๐
The sole surviving dog is now being cared for by a local Romanian rescuer.
Today is entirely about them, the silent heroes who gave everything trying to bring the voiceless away from danger and toward a brighter future. The physical and emotional price of rescue is immense, and their selflessness, courage, and compassion will never be forgotten.

๐ 9 TURKISH RESCUE DOGS & TWO BRITISH RESCUE VOLUNTEERS TRAGICALLY LOST IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT TODAY ๐
Today the rescue world has been shaken by an unimaginable tragedy.
Our rescue friend Claire Dalton of Homeward Bound Rescue in Turkey has fought for years to protect and save dogs who had nobody else. These nine precious dogs had finally left Turkey and were en route to Claires home in France, heading towards the brighter future Claire had fought so hard to give them.
They were being transported by two British women volunteers helping to get them to safety when their vehicle was involved in a devastating accident on the motorway in Romania. Tragically, both women and nine dogs of the ten dogs lost their lives. The one dog who survived will be collected and cared for by a Romanian rescuer today.
For Claire and her team this is simply unimaginable. To fight so hard for these dogs, keep them safe and finally see them begin their journey to a better life, only for it to end like this, is heartbreaking.
Our thoughts are also very much with the families and loved ones of the two ladies who lost their lives while helping these dogs on their journey.
Pictures of the accident are widely available on the internet, but out of respect for everyone involved, we have chosen not to share them.

Police have launched a manhunt after a woman was raped by a stranger in a broad daylight attack in Stoke-on-Trent.
The woman was approached by an unknown man near Bucknall Old Road in Hanley before being taken into an alleyway and raped at around 1pm on 11 May 2026.
Detectives have carried out a number of enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation and have now released an image of a man they want to speak to, appealing directly to the public for help identifying him.
Anyone who recognises him, or has information that could help detectives, is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 457 of 11 May.
The investigation remains ongoing and police are urging anyone who may have seen the man around Bucknall Old Road or Hanley at the time of the attack to come forward.

Everyone in rescue is devastated by the news of a terrible traffic accident yesterday, which stole the life of two wonderful volunteer ladies, and 9 of the 10 precious dogs they were transporting from Turkey ๐
The dogs were heading to their forever happy ending in France and to Claire from Homeward Bound, their rescuer who had been caring for them for years. These selfless ladies tragically lost their lives taking them to their safe place.
We send all our love to their family and friends, and especially to Claire who has been robbed of so many of the beautiful dogs she dedicated her life to.
