Europe is buying more Russian Arctic gas, not less. In the first nine months of 2026, EU ports took a record 12.18 million tonnes of Yamal LNG — 9.5% more than last year. That is 85% of everything the project produced. The estimated bill is €7.88 billion. An earlier ban on short-term contracts changed almost nothing. The full ban is only due in January 2027. Until then, Europe condemns the war and remains Russia’s main buyer of this gas. That is the double standard.
