I’m Kolade Oluwadare, I’m Software Engineer and builder. I work at the intersection of Android, backend systems, artificial intelligence and real-world engineering thinking. Over the years, I’ve learned that good engineers don’t just write code, we think in systems, trade-offs, reliability, and long-term impact. On this page, I share: • Android & mobile engineering (Kotlin, Java, architecture) • Backend thinking, APIs, reliability & safety • Career growth for engineers (clarity, pace, responsibility) • Real lessons from building, breaking, and rebuilding • Calm, honest conversations about tech I’m here to build, teach, learn, collaborate and leave a clear trail for those coming behind. If you’re serious about tech, growth, and doing things properly, you’re in the right place. 🤝 Follow for engineering thinking, not shortcuts. 🛠️ Building in public: @KoladeBuilds

Something that decides how a payments product feels, and almost never appears in the spec: what your support team can see when a customer says the money left my account and nothing happened.

Local constraints can produce globally useful engineering lessons. The habits you build handling bad networks and unreliable dependencies travel to any market. The reverse is much less true.

Feature 4: Goals 🎯 Big goal → small milestones. 5km. Then 10km. Then 15km. Progress bar fills as you go. You always know the next step.
I’ve been building something personal, and I’m excited to finally share it. An AI agent gets interesting when it can do something. It becomes an engineering problem when it can do something important without asking you first. Most teams are still celebrating the first part.

Lesson from building my app: calm beats clever. Early versions had more buttons, more stats, more everything. I kept deleting until it felt like a deep breath.

A number worth reading carefully if you hire engineers in Nigeria. Techpoint reported last week that the median software engineer on formal payroll earns about 1.07 million naira a month, roughly 2.2 times the median medical officer.

Once an API has a single external client, you no longer own it by yourself. You own a promise, and the people holding you to it will not all be people you can email.

The expensive version is the integration you never knew about. Somebody built against your API two years ago, the engineer who did it has left, nobody is on your mailing list, and you learn they exist on the day their traffic stops and their customers start calling.

So the dull practices earn their keep. Add fields rather than rename them, version before you need to, and know which clients still call each endpoint. Treat deprecation as a schedule you publish in advance rather than an announcement you make on the day.

I’ve used both Claude and codex… they are both very very nice, But Claude is more better for intense work, but it eat up token very fast. Codex is very nice too but the advantage it has is that the token doesn’t finish so fast like Claude.

Above all, be filled with the Spirit of God. Sometimes, the leading of the Holy Spirit can save you from situations you may never fully understand. Many people who say “stop being too nice” have been victims of genuine wickedness and betrayal. Their experiences may explain their advice, but they shouldn’t determine how we live as believers. Repaying evil with good is biblical, but kindness must walk with wisdom and discernment. Being kind doesn’t mean tolerating manipulation or allowing people to take advantage of you. Be kind, but be wise. Forgive, but maintain boundaries. Above all, let the Holy Spirit lead you.
This is a worldly advice. He is spending so much time on social media and absorbing worldly advice. It should not be coming from the pulpit. There is nothing wrong with being nice. Niceness is not a defect in character. People taking advantage of people's kindness is a worldly behaviour and advising people in church to stop being kind is not Christianly. He should be telling the women in his church to be grateful for kindnesses and be kind themselve. He should also teach them to reciprocate kind gestures, while teaching them the folly of ingratitude. He should teach the men to be kind and if anyone should take them for granted for being kind, they should dust their feet off that person. We can't be bringing worldly advice into the church. Why are Pastors afraid to advise women snd tell them the truth? If you frame kindness as niceness just to pass a worldly message, you're deceiving yourself. It is one and the same thing. Potato Potahto. Please don't tell me he said "dont be nice" not "don't be kind." We all know they mean he same thing. The resulting consequences would be a lack of kindness. You don't tell people not to be nice and still expect them to be kind. Kindness means to be considerate of others. Niceness means to be courteous and pleasant. What is the difference? You cannot put a piece of live coal on a child's palm and ask him to carry it with care. - Chinua Achebe And be ye kind one to another, and tenderhearted. - Eph 4:32

What Nigerian technology problem do you think deserves far more engineering attention than it gets? I will pick a few and write about them properly.

Reason I’ve been drawn to codex of recent.

The agentic shift is really a shift from AI generating information to AI participating in workflows. That changes the engineering around it far more than it changes the model at the centre.

Amazon has put DuckDB inside Aurora PostgreSQL, so one query can join live rows in your database with historical Parquet and Iceberg files sitting in S3. InfoQ picked it up on Saturday. Worth a thought even if you never touch AWS.
