PlayStation thought the game was called physical and had to back out
As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project. PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner. In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured that development of PHYSINT, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.

Fair point lol. Im still going give the movie a shot but I get why the backlash is there.
The RESIDENT EVIL backlash makes a lot more sense when you actually look at Zach Cregger's timeline.
September 18, 2025:
“I want to tell a Resident Evil story in the Resident Evil canon.”
April 30, 2026:
Now it's somehow “not canon” with the characters, but still canon because it happens around Raccoon City and RE2.
July 24, 2026:
He admits the 1998 setting is now 2026, modern technology is everywhere, and he “took liberties” to tell his story.
Now?
Good luck finding him plainly calling it game canon anymore.
That's why fans are pushing back.
Nobody demanded a photocopy of the games.
But if you sell something as canon, then keep changing the timeline, setting and story until “canon” becomes meaningless, people are going to notice.
You made your version Zach... Now own it.
SICK!
You can now play your PS3 games on PC... DIRECTLY FROM THE DISC DRIVE!
💿 PLUG AND PLAY! Owning your games as physical media allows you to play games released as far back as 20 years ago without relying on any servers!

i genuinely think Zach Cregger is trying his best to make the best film he can, but give me a break, you can't blame the fans for being worried when every time a new interview comes out we get quotes like this.
these are the direct sources:
Zach Cregger says that he feels like he has been on an apology tour for ‘RESIDENT EVIL’ to get people to stop calling him a LARPer.
“Now, I’m just like, ‘You know what? See the movie.’ If you still feel the same way, then whatever you think is fair.”

Talk about 2 steps back. Now its 2 days after it airs AND a limited release window? Sheesh

A lot of gamers will hop on something like a fighting game, kart racer, or literally anything with a focus on multiplayer, and be absolutely baffled over the concept of the other players trying to win and proceed to complain about that online. Like what did you expect?

Sonic Adventure 2 (OVA) | Short animation
The animation is finally out! This is my solo project, which took an extremely long time to make
Oh Hell Yea! Ordered on July 12th when it went back up for about a hour on Amazon and arrived today. So glad I didn't have to pay above the regular price.
Wanted to watch but never got around to it. Now is a good time with it having a physical release. #strangerthings
Yea I can definitely understand the problem people had. He should have done a better job talking about when it takes place. Regardless, its just a Resident Evil movie that is separate from the games and taking place in 2026.
Enough time has passed. These are the top 3 Star Fox games. Thats right! Star Fox 64 is so GOATED that it is the top 3 games in the franchise! BWAHAHAHA! #StarFox
