Fe-S clusters exist in a wide range of proteins including Nitrogenase and Ferredoxins . We've recently completed a set of Fe-S cluster models on oak bases for a newly-tenured researcher @ChemistryMIT. Impressive collection when it was all together! miramodus.com/molecular-mode…

The House is going on a 2 week break after failing to raise the SALT cap, send aid to our allies abroad, or address the immigration crisis. Instead they wasted time on a partisan impeachment. Because they haven't passed a budget, the gov is set to shut down days after they return

Excited to share my first scientific manuscript out now on @biorxivpreprint, where we present the first ever #cryoEM structure of the iron #nitrogenase complex. Let me tell you about our newest insights into the mystery of biological nitrogen fixation: doi.org/10.1101/2023.05.02.5…

Almond Cardamon Cake with Pistachios This is a wonderful cake, very easy to make. It is an almond flour cake with lots of eggs. It is flavored with cardamon and topped with pistachios. What more could anyone ask for? #cake #almond #cardamon #pistachios tmblr.co/ZfctNydRLdl2Ka00

Michelle Millar, one of the first women chemistry profs, died 12 yrs ago today. stonybrook.edu/commcms/chemi… She never gave up the struggle even though it took her 14 yrs to get tenure. @MIT_WIC @ACSINORDivision #InternationalWomenInScienceDay

Michelle started as an Assistant Professor at NYU which was a sexist horror story. Most of her NYU colleagues have gone to their eternal rewards. She would be very happy that "new" NYU faculty includes several outstanding young women inorganic chemists

The most important thing that my group did that got me tenure many years ago was isolating the compounds that gave the similar red color to solutions when you react thiols and phenols with Fe3+

Before you pick your adviser, talk with his or her students, It is as important as your talks with your possible adviser. Even more important than the hours per week is the number of years students take to earn their degree.
Too many of these kinds of hand-wringing posts, implying that PhD students are indentured vs enabled, fun-loving nerds. As a student, I took vacations freely, routinely worked 60h+ weeks. Great fun! Then, 5y later, as a young faculty member, the curtains were really drawn. Wow!
