A thread for the quiet creators:
The ones building slowly, showing up softly, and choosing depth over noise.

A friend’s dad was a civil servant who died and left over 30 houses. They have all been sold and the kids no longer live in Benin City except for the eldest in their ancestral home. They are all hustling like us today. It made me see the ephemeral nature of value and existence.

What prompted me was reading that story of Steve Jobs at the university. There are people who deserve help and there are others who take it for granted. Let’s not punish those who are deserving because of those who have taken advantage of us. Life is simple yet random.
…life isn’t bad at all

Keeping everyone (including Africans) completely ignorant about Africa and the central role it plays in the economic and natural world is a core feature of Europeanised education, not a bug.
You're not supposed to know that the DRC is the most resource-rich country in the world, with an estimated $24 trillion sitting under its soil. You're not supposed to know that the rise of "western civilisation" from the 15th century on was entirely made possible by European contact with Africa, and that the resources and labour extracted from coastal West Africa from 1492 onwards are the entire reason why both American continents exist in their current form.
You're not supposed to know that both WW1 and WW2 were essentially wars fought over the right to African colonial domination and expansion, and that even the uranium that was used in "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki came from Shinkolobwe uranium mine in eastern DRC. You're not supposed to know that the reason the country of France exists in its current form is because tens of thousands of conscripted West African soldiers fought and won against the Nazis in Europe, and the French thereafter shipped them back to West Africa and massacred them at Camp Thiaroye in Senegal to avoid paying them their due wages.
You're not supposed to know that there was nothing cold about the so-called Cold War, because the vast majority of the hot theaters it was physically fought in were on the continent of Africa. (Zimbabwe, DRC, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Angola, Eritrea, Zambia etc). You're not supposed to know that the ongoing Ukraine war and the war in the Sahel are in fact the same conflict being fought by the same 2 sides, and that the reason France is desperately pushing funding and arms to Ukraine even as it falls into internal crisis is that Ukraine is acting as its proxy army in West Africa, as it tries to regain its lost colonial territories there, especially Niger where the cheap yellowcake uranium for its famously cheap nuclear energy used to come from before the 2023 revolution.
You're definitely not supposed to know that the entire global economy and system of trade as you know it is built on ruthless extraction from Africa and ensuring that Africa does not control anything it exports. You're not supposed to know that "Italian leather" doesn't come from Italy - it comes from Kano, Nigeria. You're not supposed to know that "Swiss chocolate" does not exist because cocoa does not grow anywhere in Switzerland or Europe - it comes from Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria. You're not supposed to know that Israel and the UAE control the global diamond and gold markets even though Israel has no diamond mine and the UAE has zero gold mines, because both resources are literally being stolen from the DRC and Sudan on an industrial basis.
You're basically not supposed to understand that the entire geopolitical world as you know it, rests entirely on extraction from Africa, poverty of Africans, and your own ignorance about where everything you use comes from.
Completely deliberate 500+ year-old feature, not accidental bug.

"Victor, you are worse than a salary earner. Your source of income is from one customer, and it is not stable." - Theo Amadi, 1995.
Those words proved true: the business failed some years later, not only due to overreliance on a single customer and a lack of scale, but also due to inexperience.
Three decades later, I am seeing the same mistake repeated by others, and I still sometimes default to the same pattern myself out of habit.
You must sell and sell to many regularly. No single customer is big enough for a business to stop selling to others. Getting large clients and focussing too much on them always seems pragmatic, but it is the most dangerous thing to do when you are small and replaceable.
The modern-day version of one customer is also focused on using a single sales or marketing channel. Millions of people are fighting for attention on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter; your small venture doesn't have to join in the noise unless it has a unique message and following. This is where so many people (myself included) typically get it wrong.
My cousin, who sells bedsheets and household goods, once told me that even though he has millions of followers on other platforms, his highest conversion and sales come from LinkedIn.
It is a cringy place that we all dump on all the time, but most of my inbound private consulting bookings have surprisingly come from there. What I do these days is test things and perfect them here before I take them to LinkedIn.
This is a million dollars in consulting advice given for zero cents.
I thought to do this today and ended up forgetting them outside. Rain has dealt with them
My mum calm down beat me fess😭😭😭😭
Placing pillows in SUNLIGHT once a week naturally sterilizes them with UV rays.
This practice kills dust mites, bacteria, and molds, giving you a cleaner, healthier sleep.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Sunlight UV offers limited surface effects and drying benefits but does not sterilize pillows or reliably kill dust mites, bacteria, or molds inside as it fails to penetrate deeply.

“Every person you deal with is like another culture, an alien land with a past that has nothing to do with yours. Yet you can bypass the differences between you and him by appealing to his self-interest. Do not be subtle: you have a valuable knowledge to share, you will fill his coffers with gold, you will make him live longer and happier. This is a language that all of us speak and understand.”
I stopped watching inventing Ann when she spoke to the lawyers kid.
Oh that scene pissed me off so bad
