People love stories. But too often, scientists forget that when it comes to communicating research. This week's podcast guest is Dr Jess Hopf @JKHopf. Her job is to help others tell their research stories- not with words, but visually! Host: @cynthiahqy. therandomsample.com.au/podca…

We finally got to meet in person after a few years of monthly zoom ☕ and 🍵 @amaltr42 runs the great @avid_podcast, which I highly recommend if you listen to, especially if you want to learn about people doing cool STEM things.

My new paper is out in @PLOSBiology about art 🎨 and science 🧪collaborations! We argue that ✨art and science are one in the same✨ and provide recommendations for researchers & universities about how to support sci/art synergy. 👉🏽Read it here: journals.plos.org/plosbiolog…

This is one of the main reasons I started this business, to help students and phd researchers. Hearing that they are using what they learnt fills me with so much joy 🤓🤩😃
Couldn't have done it without your fantastic workshop @JKHopf . I learnt so much and got to put it into action immediately! Just wait until ANZIAM when I have more slides.

Glad you enjoyed it! It was so good to see everyone start to think about visual design as problem solving and have ideas on how to improve their figures by the end of the day!
Great workshop today on visual #SciCom by @KnowlegibleDsg “As researchers we’re meant to be amazing @ everything…but we’re not always taught how”. Super helpful to have access to this training, thanks @KateHelmstedt and @JKHopf for making it happen

Holy cowfish! Obsidian! 🤯🤯🤯 if you haven't heard of it, check it out. it's for note taking, but it's so so much more. It let's you backlink notes, which is revolutionary! (I know I'm late to the #obsidian party for those who do use it)

A quick discussion on the importance of matching your viz to your data not the other way around!
I deeply appreciate the core message here that we need to talk about the 69% biodiversity loss since the 70s. But that is where this viz stops for me. Everything else about it is deeply misleading...🧵
