Anyone saying that outrage over the Odyssey movie is no big deal because it's "just fantasy" or "just some story" is lying to you or culturally illiterate. Probably both.
Its not just a story. It's a cultural relic and a foundational piece of Western literature. Much of Western culture is derived from the Greeks - our government is largely derived from Democratic Greek institutions. Our infrastructure is (or was) built in the neoclassical style, which is a modern interpretation of Greek architecture. Our language is influenced by Greek. Our philosophy is underpinned by Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, to say nothing of contributions by other Greeks like Diogenes or Archimedes.
The Odyssey is no different - that's why it is required reading in virtually every school across the nation. It teaches us the hero's journey, self-discipline, the consequences of lust and of arrogance, devotion to one's homeland and family, the benefits of physical fitness, and most importantly, that it's okay to murder men who covet your wife.
The writers of the movie know this. They aren't rewriting the story on accident; they are doing it on purpose for this very reason. They are rewriting the Odyssey because they want to rewrite how we understand and engage with the Western mythos as a whole. They want to warp, alter, and eventually undo the relationship we have to our forebears (whether by blood or thought) so that we no longer relate to these values. Mass media slopped into the troughs of the illiterate masses is a potent weapon indeed.

You can go watch it as it's a free country & I as a proud Greek can read this nonsense & laugh at the gaul in which you think this is an over reaction by conservatives. Left-wing politicians are now saying Trump needs to “bring us together.” They want to dump all the blame for division on him, but their own dangerous rhetoric and ideologies have been the number one driver of division in this country.
They weren't calling for unity while demonizing Trump nonstop. They only call for unity now that their words are leading to violence.
By refusing to take accountability and tell their own side to tone it down, they are perpetuating a permission structure for violence against conservatives. This is a major problem.
Left wing politicians saying, "we condemn all political violence" is not enough. They need to make major adjustments to their rhetoric.
The left needs to take a SERIOUS look in the mirror.

When someone on the left gets fired for what they said, it's: "Donald Trump wants to take away free speech".
When someone on the right gets fired for what they said, it’s just and makes sense. “They deserved it.”

Radical leftists are the greatest domestic terror threat we face. They killed Charlie. They will kill many more if they can. They want us dead and they're very clear about it. The media is trying to run cover for them and let them off the hook. The Right must not help them in that effort. That would be a huge mistake.
