Caution: I debate idiots. I’d rather be telling jokes, but there are so MANY of them... Idiots, not jokes. Well, jokes also. Don’t follow me; I’m lost, too.

How I know I’m old: Watching @John_Fogerty do “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” on @colbertlateshow tonight reminded me it was the first 45 I ever bought. “Hey Tonight” was the B side. That’s not what shows I’m old. It’s that I no longer remember where the f*#k I put my 45’s.

Hey, Comperatore family! Trump thinks people attending his rallies are “collateral damage.” But you sadly know that already, don’t you? xitter.cf/Acyn/status/2110485766…
Trump: I travel with doctors. If people get sick in the audience, they leave them alone. You know what they call them? Collateral damage. If that person right over there, he looks like shit actually. He looks like he's ready to have a heart attack. If he did, my doctors would leave him alone.

How does a newborn get hepatitis B? Perhaps you should read the Alaska studies from the 1970s and 1980s. Researchers documented extensive hepatitis B transmission among children and within households, often without an identifiable history of blood exposure. Children were infecting other children. Many infected people had no symptoms and had no idea they were carrying the virus. And infants who become infected have roughly a 90% chance of developing chronic hepatitis B, with lifelong risks of cirrhosis and liver cancer. Alaska introduced newborn vaccination and widespread childhood immunization. Hepatitis B infections in children plummeted, as did childhood liver cancer. We studied this decades ago. We know what happens when children aren’t protected, and we know what vaccination accomplished. Perhaps learn some of that history before assuming infants cannot acquire hepatitis B.

Since I see it spreading…the below tweet about Vance is completely fake. The account that posted it just makes stuff up and claims to be a “source for parody news.” (As always, I have little patience for “what’s scary is that it possibly could have been real” replies.)

Good to know there’s a 'proper context' for murdering Manchester's Jews.
I watched the BBC1 TV news at Six and was startled to watch coverage of this memorial. It far exceeded the news value of the occasion in length and content. As usual alarm about levels of ugly anti semitism lacked any proper context: the slaughter in Gaza bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2z…

“I was just honest.” If she was really honest, she’d admit she lacks the background and the knowledge to competently represent her state. Saying “I don’t speak politician” when she whiffed on a softball Taiwan question is a poor excuse and further proof she’s an empty suit.
Darline Graham: I tripped up on one question last night, regarding Taiwan. I don't speak politician. I was just honest. Of course, Taiwan is our friend. But I think people in South Carolina are more worried about boys in girls sports.

“‘Despite the fact that the authors do not investigate the causes for excess mortality, the introduction and discussion of the article are largely focused on how to explain the excess mortality.’” Oopsies.
For years anti-vaxxers have cited a paper as evidence that COVID vaccines caused 3.1 million deaths across 47 countries. It has now been retracted for misinformation.

Unless you held your personal phone up to a dying patient so they could gasp “I’m sorry…I love you…goodbye…” to their family on a group call you organized, you do not judge Fauci. Unless you did the same for a patient who was already unresponsive and nearing death so their loved ones could say the things they never said and you were never meant to hear, you do not judge Fauci. Unless you rationed oxygen, medical equipment and life-saving medications, because your top-rate, first-world country, and its self-aggrandizing medical system failed, you do not judge Fauci. Unless you’ve lost three patients in 45 minutes going from one bedside to the next so they did not die alone, praying the prayers a priest was meant to say because they could not come, you do not judge Fauci. Unless you’ve zipped a human being in a bag knowing no one else would ever gaze upon that face again, and placed it on a table in an office or on the floor of a refrigerated trailer meant for sides of beef, you do not judge Fauci. Unless you hold a degree in nursing or medicine, or epidemiology, or public health, or at the very least can connect the dots, the very simple dots, you do not judge Fauci. For if you lived and sit in judgment of decisions you did not make and do not understand, decisions for which you were never considered, and never would be, you are a fool and look dumb before humanity and God. And may God help you, because you clearly cannot help yourself. ~Jason M. LaForest, July 30, 2026

This is where I’d point out that our nation hasn’t always lived up to its ideals, that a flawed humanity has flawed output, but our inscribed purpose to move towards “a more perfect union” is worth celebrating. But I think you just need to be told this: Read the room, fuckstick.
The United States of America were founded by wealthy slave owners and arch-Stuart reactionaries who rejected their monarch because he couldn’t prevent Parliament from taxing their colony, whose violent settler peasantry just wanted to continue murderously expanding their frontier. They were one of the last countries to abolish slavery and didn’t become a formal democracy until the 1960s. Their advantage of being a freer and more open society was short-lived and their attempt to build anything resembling a social state crumbled. Instead of a society of mass affluence, they ended up with a barbaric carceral system of historically unprecedented proportions, a top-heavy rapaciously extractive economy, a state thoroughly captured by oligarchic interests. The last decades have been marked by America’s centrality to nearly every damaging social, cultural and ideological trend. It continues to export its accelerating domestic psychoses to the world. It has become the ultimate destabilising hegemon, blundering around like dying ogre, ever swelling a mountain of rotting corpses. American isn’t the cause of all ill in the world, but the increasingly nihilistic, zero-sum social culture of contemporary capitalism, that has ramified into every corner of society, is fundamentally American, and the umbilical chord is very much still attached. There is no Post-American world—but with a little luck there will be one day. Happy 4th of July
