I disagree with the Administration’s decision to waive new sanctions Congress passed to increase economic pressure on Russia.
Putin started this war, and Russia continues its brutal attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure. I understand the need to lower energy costs for American families. But easing sanctions makes it easier for Russia to fund its war, with little evidence that Americans will see meaningful savings.
I support efforts to bring this war to an end. But a lasting peace requires accountability, and we should not ease pressure on Russia without meaningful concessions in return.
I hope the Administration reconsiders.

Today, I joined a bipartisan, bicameral small group meeting with President Zelenskyy.
One thing was clear: outrage over Trump’s decision to make it easier for Russia to finance its brutal war against Ukraine crosses party lines.
My colleagues and I may disagree on plenty, but we agree that the United States should be tightening sanctions on Putin and helping Ukraine defend civilians, not rewarding him as Russian missiles continue to rain down on Ukraine.
Every concession to Putin without accountability only emboldens his aggression.
Trump is shamefully and dishonorably sustaining Putin’s brutal war, with devastating consequences for our allies in Ukraine, NATO, and American credibility.
My colleagues on both sides of the aisle must speak out, stand together, and demand that this administration stop this betrayal.

Republicans threaten to block $350 billion in Pentagon funding unless Trump takes a tougher stance on Russia
The dispute was triggered by the Trump-Putin deal on diesel imports, as well as restrictions on Ukraine’s use of satellite systems.
Some Republicans are demanding that sanctions against Russia be reinstated and restrictions on Kyiv be lifted, The Hillreports.
Congressman Don Bacon said that unless the administration changes course, Republicans will refuse to support Trump’s legislative agenda for the remainder of the congressional session.
Republican congressman threatens sanctions against US agencies over Starshield restrictions in Ukraine
US Representative Brian Fitzpatrick said he would push for an investigation into restrictions on the Starshield satellite system in Ukraine.
He said those responsible could face public congressional hearings and budget cuts for the agencies involved.
Fitzpatrick pledged to discuss military aid for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia with Volodymyr Zelensky.
He also urged the US to provide Kyiv with the weapons it needs, completely phase out Russian oil and tighten sanctions against Moscow.
According to the congressman, these measures would receive broad support in the House of Representatives.

I will be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team this week to discuss Starshield, sanctions, and other matters pertaining to the defense of our strong ally, Ukraine. I will be assuring President Zelenskyy that anyone who attempts to limit the use of Starshield for Ukraine will be fully investigated and will be held fully accountable, to include public congressional oversight hearings, and immediate harsh and punitive budget cuts to any responsible agency or agency head.
Congress will unequivocally reaffirm that Ukraine is an indispensable ally to the United States, that Russia is a self-declared enemy of the United States, and that the United States will 100% support and defend the people of Ukraine in their fight for their own freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion.
The United States must provide any and all defensive equipment that Ukraine needs to defend itself. The United States must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be harsher and stronger than they’ve ever been before. Each and every one of these items will be brought to the House Floor—and each and every one of these items will pass on the House Floor by an overwhelming margin.
This is, after all, what Ronald Reagan would do. And this is what we will do now. Ukraine can, and will, defeat Russia. #PeaceThroughStrength

As Trump continues to bend to Putin, he is putting Ukraine at greater risk in its fight for freedom by restricting access to the technology Ukraine uses to intercept Russian missile attacks, putting untold Ukrainian lives at risk and undermining Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
We are demanding answers from SpaceX about who ordered these restrictions and why.
