Every Luo should read Achiengโ€™ Onekoโ€™s The Price of Freedom. . @orengo_james can you account of the Kikuyu treatment of Achiengโ€™ Oneko? . @ongwen the silence of the Luo on their treatment under Kenyatta, and the focus on the Moi era by your generation is ahistorical. . The primitive tribalists detained him even after he spent more than 9 years fighting their worthless war. . Oneko is a true independence hero whose story when fully understood will expose the primitive tribalists for selling out the independence struggle. . Oneko is a cautionary tale on why Luo politicians must never TRUST Kikuyu politicians with their primitive OATHS! . When you read Onekoโ€™s book you get the impression that had he not committed Luos to the costly maumau misadventure, we would have emerged from the 1950s a better lot.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed Kenyaโ€™s ninth Ebola (Bundibugyo virus disease) case, the eighth locally acquired infection linked to the imported index case who died on 5 October. The latest patient, a 24-year-old close family member of the deceased, tested positive on 19 October while already in quarantine. He was promptly isolated and started on treatment. Encouragingly, all eight surviving patients are reportedly improving, while 134 of 135 contacts (99.3%) have been traced and quarantined. Commendable progress, particularly that cases are being detected while already under quarantine, with no reported transmission outside the identified cluster. However, important epidemiological questions remain unanswered: 1๏ธโƒฃ When and how was the ninth patient exposed to the index case? What was his last known exposure date? 2๏ธโƒฃ When did he enter quarantine, and when did symptoms begin? Was he among those quarantined from 6 October or identified later? 3๏ธโƒฃ Was he infected directly by the index case or by another infected contact? All nine cases belonging to one cluster doesnโ€™t establish that all eight local infections came directly from the deceased. Some could be tertiary infections. 4๏ธโƒฃ Could transmission have occurred during quarantine? Were contacts isolated individually or accommodated together? MOH says no transmission occurred within quarantine facilities, but what evidence supports this? 5๏ธโƒฃ Has MOH established a transmission tree showing who likely infected whom? An anonymised timeline of exposure dates, quarantine dates and symptom onset would help clarify whether onward transmission occurred. 6๏ธโƒฃ What about the remaining untraced contact and newly identified contacts? Are their 21-day monitoring periods calculated from their respective last exposure dates? One epidemiological cluster can contain multiple generations of transmission. The ninth patientโ€™s diagnosis on 19 October remains compatible with exposure to the index case before his death on 5 October, given Ebolaโ€™s 2โ€“21-day incubation period. However, without specific exposure dates and quarantine details, other transmission pathways cannot be independently excluded. The progress in contact tracing, early detection and patient care deserves recognition. But understanding who likely infected whom is equally important for assessing the effectiveness of quarantine and infection prevention measures. MOH should also provide opportunities for the public via independent health professionals and journalists to seek clarification through regular interactive briefings rather than relying on late-evening press statements. These are legitimate public-health questions for @MOH_Kenya, not criticism for its own sake. Greater openness and clarity on the transmission chain will strengthen public confidence in the outbreak response.
One additional Ebola case has been confirmed, bringing Kenyaโ€™s total to nine. All nine cases are linked to one known cluster, with no evidence of transmission outside the group. Eight patients are stable and responding well to treatment, while 134 of 135 contacts have been traced and quarantined. #EbolaAlertKE

I would like to thank all those who have prayed for me in recent days. I wish to express my particular gratitude to the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the Gemelli Hospital. This experience has made me feel particularly close to all those who are living with illness or infirmity. Now that I have overcome this delicate phase I will gradually resume my activities, always with Godโ€™s help and your prayers.

Because of some patently weak decisions Kenya's judiciary is slowly losing its institutional profile and prestige. Judicial legitimacy is a fragile currency: courts possess neither the sword nor the purse, commanding compliance solely through moral authority and the persuasive power of their reasoning. When the reasoning faltersโ€”or worse, appears contorted to reach expedient outcomesโ€”that authority erodes rapidly. โ€‹The post-2010 Kenyan judiciary enjoyed an unprecedented reservoir of domestic and international prestige. It positioned itself as a fearless institutional arbiter, famously nullifying a presidential election in 2017 and checking executive overreach in the BBI litigation. However, that moral capital has been heavily depleted by a series of doctrinally tenuous decisions and shifting standards that critics argue reveal a judiciary retreating from its transformative mandate. โ€‹Several recurring patterns illustrate where the intellectual and institutional profile of the courts has cracked: โ€‹1. Incoherent Doctrinal Postures and Precedential Instability โ€‹The strength of an apex or superior court lies in precedential predictability. When courts shift standards without rigorous intellectual justification, legal certainty collapses: โ€‹The "Substantial Compliance" Sliding Scale: In electoral disputes, standards of scrutiny have fluctuated wildly between strict procedural constitutionalism and deferential, quantitative tolerance. This oscillation fuels perceptions that the threshold of compliance is tailored to the political stakes rather than anchored in principle. โ€‹2. Evasive Formalism and Political Question Doctrine by Stealth โ€‹Rather than confronting sensitive structural or constitutional questions head-on, superior benches have increasingly taken refuge in hyper-technical gatekeeping: โ€‹Over-reliance on Standing, Ripeness, and Mootness: In cases challenging controversial public policy or fiscal legislation, courts have at times deployed procedural hurdles to avoid substantive constitutional pronouncements. โ€‹Incongruent Reliefs: Even where severe violations of procedure or constitutional provisions are found, courts have issued suspended declarations of invalidity or "prospective" remedies that insulate completed executive overreach, leaving litigating citizens with pyrrhic victories. โ€‹3.โ€‹Rushed Unanimity vs. Robust Jurisprudence: The perceived suppression of principled dissents in high-stakes benches has occasionally produced compromised, lowest-common-denominator judgments whose reasoning fails under close academic or professional scrutiny. โ€‹4. Executive Chilling and Defensive Adjudication โ€‹The institutional retreat is not happening in a vacuum. Sustained executive rhetoric, budget containment, and the weaponization of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) removal process have had a demonstrable chilling effect: โ€‹When individual judges face public executive threats or administrative isolation, collective judicial courage softens. โ€‹Defensive adjudication emergesโ€”judges calibrate decisions to survive institutional onslaughts, choosing battles where the political blowback is manageable while yielding ground on fiscal or core executive priorities. โ€‹The Institutional Consequence โ€‹The danger of "patently weak" decisions is not simply that one party loses; it is that the public and the bar begin to view the courtroom not as a forum of rigorous legal analysis, but as an arena of managed outcomes. When citizens come to believe that justice is negotiated rather than reasoned, the constitutional promise of transformative adjudication is hollowed out from within.

Good News; High Court rules that wives must return dowry after divorce. In a ruling, the court says that even if the dowry was paid to the wife's parents, she must return the dowry to the husband and later demand compensation from her parents. Since the marriage is over and divorce has been finalised, not returning dowry implies that the wife owes her husband. If the husband paid Ksh 1.2m, the wife must return the money. If he gave them 50 cows and 100 goats the wife must return 50 cows and 100 goats or more depending on the value at that time.

After three days without a public situation update, this is concerning. That avoidable silence left us relying on the last reassurance while awaiting news. Information gaps fuel speculation and undermine trust. The encouraging part is that this family contact was already in quarantine when symptoms developed on 13 October, enabling prompt isolation, testing and treatment. Quarantine paid off, but containment is not yet assured. This also puts earlier cautious optimism into perspective: passing the average incubation period is not an all-clear. Every contact needs monitoring for 21 days from their last possible exposure. The 15 untraced contacts remain an urgent priority. Those who shared exposure to the deceased with this patient need especially close monitoring, while anyone exposed to him after symptoms began requires assessment. MOH must provide daily updates on all quarantined contacts - symptoms, testing and completion of monitoring - alongside progress in tracing those outstanding, including contacts outside Kenya. Even โ€œno new casesโ€ is an update worth giving. We hope there are no further infections, particularly no community transmission beyond known contacts. Effective surveillance must be matched by timely, transparent communication.

Pope Leo XIV underwent thoracic surgery at Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, as planned, according to a statement from Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora released by the Holy See Press Office. The surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Popeโ€™s right lung, and tissue examined during the operation confirmed the diagnosis of โ€œlung adenocarcinoma,โ€ as suspected from tests conducted beforehand. The Pope was in the operating room approximately three hours, while the operation itself lasted about 90 minutes. The doctors said it was successful and there were no complications. Pope Leo awoke normally after surgery and, following a brief period of observation, returned to his room on the hospitalโ€™s 10th floor, according to the statement. vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/โ€ฆ

2026 economic sciences laureates Robert E. Hallโ€™s and Michael Woodfordโ€™s research has made us better equipped to manage economic downturns. They laid the foundation of the New Keynesian paradigm, in which models are built upon microfoundations, which means from the bottom up. Economic outcomes are the result of millions of decisions made at the microlevel by households and businesses. Using models based upon this approach, rather than simply studying the economy from a macro perspective, like a birdโ€™s eye view, Hallโ€™s and Woodfordโ€™s research has generated a paradigm shift in the theory of stabilisation policy. #NobelPrize

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.

"What is unexpected is sometimes more interesting than what was planned or expected." This is something chemistry laureate Henri Kagan often tells his students. For over 50 years, he's been dedicated to teaching and training new scientists. During his career Kagan looked for positions that allowed him to mentor the next generation. He enjoys being asked difficult questions whose answers require hard-thinking.

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšจWOW! This is absolutely amazing to see that Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel have won the Nobel prize in medicine for their optogenetic research! Visual optogenetics is a therapeutic modality that uses Gene Therapy to deliver a light-sensitive protein to cells in the retina. This mechanism of entering light to the eye can then stimulate these cells to produce a visual signal that is sent to the brain and thus โ€œoverridingโ€ the retinal cells and to restore vision to vision impaired patients. This mechanism is already in clinical development and the most advanced optogenetic therapy is currently Nanoscope Therapeuticsโ€™ย MOGENRY (formally known MCO-010) - an Optogenetic Gene Therapy aimed to restore vision in Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) patients with a severe vision loss which is waiting for an FDA approval! Absolutely amazing!
