One of the most energetic ensemble scenes from the ballet Zorba the Greek features male dancers in traditional costumes performing the sirtaki with synchronized, precise, and spirited movements on stage. Inspired by the 1964 film Zorba the Greek, based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis and featuring music by Mikis Theodorakis, the dance has become an artistic expression closely associated with the joyful, free-spirited, and life-affirming character of Greek culture.

It’s worth reading this brilliant article by @matthewsyed in the Sunday Times on how so many “hyperliberal” political leaders are the “true extremists of our age” and “defined by the tenets of wokeism” via net zero zealotry, trans ideology and open border illegal migration. “I believe history will judge the likes of Cameron, Johnson, Trudeau, Hollande, Macron and von der Leyen as the most disastrous in postwar history.” He says this as an old school liberal. He’s absolutely correct.

If envy prompts policies of confiscatory taxation against the successful, everyone loses. Talent flees the country. Wealth generation slows. And a gloomy, mean spirited socialism poisons public life.

Replying to @JamesMelville
Modern technology is socially hostile. It’s affected human behaviour. Our manners. Our spirit. It makes people aggressive. Politesse is dead. It breeds a distinct corporate culture - putting the customer second to the interests of the corporation.

Dear Mr Burnham @andyburnham , you say that asylum seekers should not just be housed in poor areas, but in rich areas. No, they shouldn’t be housed in any areas of Britain. There is no war in France and hasn’t been for quite some time. Nor Germany, nor Italy, nor Greece, nor Spain. All countries that they’ve travelled through to get to ours. They’ve travelled to ours not out of desperation, but in search of a better life. A life where you will give them a house, a phone, spending money for life and no requirement to ever integrate or to work. Paid for not by you, but by hardworking British taxpayers. People who work day and night and stress and can’t sleep because they don’t know how to pay the next electricity bill. People who are decent people and trying to make a decent life for themselves and their families. This is Britain and it is a pleasant land because of the people here. The lands that the asylum seekers have come from are not pleasant lands. Not because of some geographical anomaly, but because of the people. The people that you now want to occupy every corner of this pleasant land. No, they shouldn’t be housed in rich areas or poor areas. They should be sent home. Because they will never call Britain home, but I do and so do many other people who love Britain and want it to remain as Britain. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The honourable members opposite are in no condition to talk about money. They waste it time and time again. They do not know how to conduct the finances of the nation. In one year it got so bad that they borrowed today's equivalent of £50 billion. Of course, they do not mind handing power to other people. They handed it over to the IMF. They had to, because they could not run it themselves.

Andy Burnham, or “Blakey Burnham”, as he is now known, had a chance encounter with Kemi Badenoch on the buses yesterday. She stuck it to him, and the moustache too! {satire}

Nature is nurture. I’ve always believed that deep wellbeing for the soul is fuelled with being outside in nature. Out there, under an open sky or beneath a canopy of trees, or the flow of a river or sea, or cultivated farmland or a garden of flowers - the natural landscape has often stood longer than any empire. Nature doesn’t care about your political beliefs, job title or financial wealth. Nature is real wealth of the soul. Our mind and body is meant to feel sun on skin, earth under feet and water and air that hasn’t been confined through plastic, glass and steel. The countryside and the coast is my own source of simple wellbeing. Always has been. Always will be.

Tyrannies are defeated not by groups of nations. They are defeated by strong nation states with strong conviction that someone who carries out aggression must be stopped.

Kemi Badenoch was interviewed last night by The Spectator‘s Political Editor, Tim Shipman, in front of a live audience at Church House in Westminster. Much of what the Conservative leader said was a retreading over familiar ground. The Conservative party was a ‘distressed asset’ when she inherited the leadership, she said, but is now getting a second hearing. Badenoch said, of the economy, that the country must cut spending before it cuts taxes, and that it is time that the government gets out of the way of business. The Conservative party was ‘for the people who get up every day’, she insisted, and that what is needed in politics is more common sense. ✍️ John Power Article | spectator.com/article/what-k…
