so there’s this incident that occured some years back, it was about a group of players who got caught up in a rigged game.🫥 thing is, everyone was on the field, sweating, strategizing, trying to win... only for them to realize, mid-game, that the rules were written in favour of the game organizers, and the scoreboard was rigged... no matter what they did, the power was always with the few holding the whistle and the timer. you see, traditional social media is no different from that game—a space where users, despite all their creativity and influence, have zero say in the things that really matter: ➫ privacy, ➫ earnings, or ➫ freedom… what happened next in the game, then? well, someone had to come to rescue, isn’t it?? so, everyone wants to know how to be a good writer aye?🙂... "Is it a gift?"... "Is it natural?" … “is it follow come?” Nuhh!!, it’s work, my friend. Hard, sweaty, brain-frying work. as William Zinsser famously put it, "Writing is hard because it’s hard." ...and if you think good writing just flows effortlessly, you're in for a rude awakening, bruhh. if you’re writing, and it feels like torture? congrats, you’re on the right track. and here’s why🍂… —-- Now, technically anyone can write— but not everyone can write in a way that stops the reader from doom-scrolling TikTok and actually makes them pay attention. the modern reader's attention span is shorter than a goldfish’s memory [and you do not want to know what a goldfish memory is like💀]. so, you gotta earn that attention. These few words might help… To start with, —---- ⤞ readers make good writers You can’t write well if you hate reading. …and that’s on period! If you’re one of those “I don’t read” types, don’t bother dreaming about being a writer. you’re just like a chef who refuses to taste food🥲—no bueno, at all. —--- ⤞ write to express, not impress Nietzsche nailed it when he said great writers want to be understood, not admired. the more you try to flex your literary muscles, the more readers will tune out. take it from Chinua Achebe, who was just a uni student when he wrote Things Fall Apart, he didn’t care about dazzling anyone; he just poured his heart into his story. look where that got him: global classic, no biggie...🍂 —----- ⤞ get creative or get out!! "Lovely" is lovely, but if you describe everything as “lovely,” you’ll bore the pants off your readers. Spice that shit up!😮‍💨 a “charming lady,” a “sleek car,” an “angelic voice”— y’know… stuff that makes the reader see what you’re saying. lazy words = lazy writing. —------ ⤞ perfection is a myth, yeah-yeah we know… but chase it anyway Good writers aren’t happy with “good enough.” they nitpick, rewrite, and fuss over every word like it’s the last dorito in the bag. and if you're thinking "eh, close enough," you’re not done yet. —--- ⤞ research like a detective on a murder case Y’all ever watched the series ‘hawaii Five-0’? those who watched it know what i mean when i say “INVESTIfuckingGATE”😭 don’t half-ass your knowledge. know your topic inside out, understand your audience, and for the love of all things holy, don’t make stuff up. well, unless it’s fiction. then go nuts. —------ ⤞ be original stop copying others’ styles. you don’t want to be just another “writer.” find your voice!🙂 i already found mine, and it’d be a taboo if you tried to copy it… be you, but with a keyboard and a pen. —----- ⤞ paint pictures with your words Don’t just tell me “she cried.” make me *see* those tears... 🫠 “tears streamed down her face” hits way harder than “tears flowed,” don't it? it’s all about the visuals, baby. also, Less is more Don’t drown the reader in words. get to the point… and fast! we’ve got cat memes to scroll through too, y’know? —---- ⤞ entertain, don’t always lecture even if you’re writing a serious piece, throw in some humor, a dash of irony, maybe a little twist. make it fun.🤭 i did that, and that’s why you read up until this point... no one wants to read a textbook, unless they’re paid for reading it. —---- ⤞ end on a high note don't drag it out. end before the reader starts begging for the sweet release of the final paragraph. don’t torture us with words, all we ever did was try to read😂… ----- And there you have it. this is not everything you need, but it should do the trick🙂... writing isn’t a magical talent you’re born with—it’s a skill. just like learning to juggle knives or make the perfect grilled cheese. anyone can do it, but it takes work... question is, are you up for the grind, or should we just call it a day? tell me in the comments...🍂
