Welles Crowther was a former Boston College lacrosse player and a New York City firefighter who carried a red bandanna.
On September 11, 2001, Welles ran into the World Trade Center to rescue those in need.

Welles Crowther was a former Boston College lacrosse player who had a trademark red bandanna.
He was also working in New York on Sept. 11, 2001 when terrorists struck the World Trade Center.

24-year-old South Tower employee Welles Crowther calls his mother from the badly-burning 77th floor: “Mom, this is Welles,” he says, with a large amount of interference and commotion heard in the background. “I’m okay.”
He then tells her that he’s going to go to the Sky Lobby to see what can be done about evacuating survivors and hangs up.

BC's graduated members of Congress, ambassadors, actors, athletes, countless execs and CEOs, but it has forever stuck with me that at my freshman orientation, they gave us an extensive presentation on Welles and told us in no uncertain terms that he's the alum BC is most proud of
Welles Crowther is a hero. A @BCEagles graduate. A son, a brother & friend. At 24, he saved over a dozen lives on 9/11. And he’s known as the “Man in the Red Bandana”.
This story is a must watch every year. May Welles’ memory continue to be a blessing.
