Small update: @Okla_OAG has dismissed his lawsuit against the board in Oklahoma County without prejudice, leaving the door open for future legal action.
At today’s SCSB meeting, Ben Gamla’s application for initial authorization fell short of approval in a 4-3 vote. Five affirmative votes are required for approval. "Welcome to the rollercoaster ride," Chairman Brian Shellem said. "Unfortunately, that is where we stand." | #oklaed

“My office warned this board in March that the school had no community support and no realistic path to the enrollment it promised. The founder’s own words have now proved that right, so the court no longer needs to step in,” Drummond said in a press release.

Farley said a lack of clarity may have contributed to the decline. "The prospect of a court yanking the rug out from under the school was something that a lot of parents just had a lot of concern about. So (a) higher court ruling would certainly be helpful."

Ferate said he would not be surprised if Ben Gamla files a motion for contempt as a result of today's action. "We will have to see what they do. But being a lawyer, I presume that is probably what is going to come."

Continuing this thread momentarily… After the meeting, Shellem said that the matter is “dead” unless Ben Gamla submits a new application. He also said that the board has opened itself up to “more litigation.”

.@brettfarley, an attorney and member of Ben Gamla's board, said the lack of approval is a "setback." "We are obviously disappointed. We were very excited about the prospect of starting the school, so this is a setback, but it is not the end."

A Sept. order from the Western District of Oklahoma granting a preliminary injunction opened the door for SCSB to approve the school's application. You can read the full order below: nondoc.com/wp-content/upload…

If voters approve SQ 847, #Oklahoma's assessment increase cap for homesteaded and agricultural properties would drop from 3% to 1.75%. The cap on valuation increases for other property types would change from 5% to 4%. Learn more from @KevReports. nondoc.com/2026/10/09/sq-847…
