All it took was £451.3m spent this summer, three unbelievably fortunate refereeing decisions, and a foundation built off two decades of financial doping. Bravo 👏
7️⃣ Enzo Maresca, the first manager in the Premier League history to win all his first 7 games in charge.

“We have a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence to prove our innocence.” December 2018: The PL requested information and documents from City. City failed to comply. September 2019: City challenged the independence and impartiality of the disciplinary process. September 2019: The PL proposed an alternative procedure for appointing a new Commission. City rejected the offer. October 2019: The Premier League commenced arbitration under Rule X, seeking a ruling that City had to provide the requested information and documents. City then challenged the PL’s right to bring the arbitration at all, saying that it lacked the power to do so and that the arbitrators lacked jurisdiction. City also challenged the arbitrators’ impartiality. City subsequently took the dispute to the High Court under the Arbitration Act 1996, seeking to set aside the award and remove the arbitrators. March 2021: Mrs Justice Moulder rejected City’s challenges. On jurisdiction, the judge ruled that Rule X.2 meant that all disputes could be submitted to arbitration and that the PL was entitled to bring proceedings under those rules. On impartiality, the judge found no real possibility that the arbitrators were biased. She also examined City’s participation in the PL’s rules and appointment system. City had been signed up to the rules since August 2001 and could participate as a shareholder in amendments and annual reapproval, including matters relating to appointments. The judge described City’s acceptance of the disciplinary and dispute resolution process as a “voluntary, informed and unequivocal election”. She refues City permission to appeal the High Court judgment for three reasons. On jurisdiction, she considered that the PLs right to bring the arbitration had been decided by applying the established principles of contractual interpretation in Wood v Capita Insurance Services Ltd. She saw no compelling reason for an appeal, considering that the implications for other clubs were limited because PL members collectively had the power to change the rules. On bias and impartiality, she concluded that City’s challenge had been determined by applying the established legal test approved by the Supreme Court in Halliburton v Chubb. It is also worth noting that City challenged the PL’s very ability to bring the charges against them at the Independent Commission hearings. So, if City really had a "comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" proving their innocence, why were all their challenges centred on the process, the jurisdiction of the arbitrators and their impartiality? And why so many challenges? Or to shorten it down to 3 words City are fucked. Sham.

Thought he looked a mile off it in pre season. Does anyone know how Danns has been since returning from injury? Looked a real talent a few years back.
🚨🙋‍♂️ 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢 - @LewisSteele_: With Hugo Ekitike out for a bit longer yet and Liverpool having fitness issues in attack Will Wright may soon be knocking on the first-team door.

Leaving aside FFP was a UEFA initiative from over two decades ago, being bought by a nation state so you can dominate the league over a long period is not a desirable system in any way, shape or form for myriad reasons. If you want greater competitiveness, you need more regulation, not less.
🚨 Joe Cole on FFP 🗣"I don't think it's fair, now that the drawbridge has been pulled up, that no other fans can have the dream of a Man City or a Chelsea. The people in charge of the rules are protecting the established order." 👏👏 #ManCity #PL

🚨 PSG's sponsorship agreement with the Qatar Tourism Authority between 2011 and 2018 was worth between €100M and €200M per year. 🇫🇷💰 However, independent valuations by Repucom and Octagon estimated the deal's actual market value at just €2.78M annually. (Source: @Lu_Class_)

Just a reminder, Man City, "the most profitable club with the biggest revenue in world football" Had their CL tickets against the reigning CL champions on general sale up until yesterday, then took them off to put on an app for uni kids for a tenner. Fucking tinpot cheaters.

That guy who will accept any guilty verdict and "not be your friend anymore" sure is staying close to those former friends
Pep arrived to the stadium directly from airport ten minutes ago He is sharing time with VIPs at the Chairman's suite And will go after the game (maybe go down to the changing room after to say hello to both managers and City players) He wanted to make sure to be part of today

Pathetic. Indescribably pathetic. If you have enough oil money to chuck around you don’t have to obey our laws, apparently. You can ruin the premier league too while you’re at it. What an utter scandal.
EXCL: Manchester City were invited and took part in a government trade delegation to India this week, despite the Premier League charges. Bev Craig, Andy Burnham’s successor as mayor, took a club representative to Delhi and Mumbai on a trip organised by business secretary Jonathan Reynolds, where she and other mayors have been promoting British trade and tourism. She defended the decision to invite City even as the PM came under fire for his own contacts with the club, telling the Guardian it had played a vital role in helping build infrastructure in her city. This is pretty astonishing: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c64g… As is the response from Deloitte Cyprus: it didn't comment "because the documents were more than 20 years old and no longer accessible." They certainly seem to be accessible...

City fans who are stupid enough to believe that the UAE’s royal family essentially committed international fraud because they care about that tinpot club, are the football equivalent of guys who believe the strippers really like them

Coventry beat Newcastle 4-1, the promoted sides all have 2+ wins, Brighton are 3rd with the highest GD, and bottom three rn are Bournemouth, Spurs, and Fulham. But the officially guilty cheaters with 18/18 pts and refs handing them matches are saving the PL’s competitiveness! 😂

Hi Tom, I've written about this since 2010. UEFA's original FFP, designed by a body of eminent academics and figures such as Brian Lomax, the "godfather" of the Supporters Trust movement, attempted to stop clubs in Europe's 55 top divisions from spending themselves to death 1/n

Hi Nick, may be I’ve missed it but wondering what your feelings about the rules themselves are? Because they exist and they broke them there’s no doubt in my mind they should be punished. However, I support Blackburn and without spend we never would have won it. Love the content.

A piece from more than 10 yrs ago, revealing Man City & PSG only avoided CL bans in 2014 because UEFA (Infantino) gave them plea bargains. City's pre-2014 cheating included getting a UAE win bonus after LOSING the 2013 FA Cup final to Wigan. dailymail.com/sport/football…

This goes beyond a lack of contrition. They were absolutely revelling in it. It’s (still) a free country - they can do that. But they can’t then expect sympathy when it all comes crashing down on them.
The soul-searching has begun for many #mancity fans (try talking to them if you don't believe that) - but they’re not going to play the sad clowns in public for a circus who, for the first time in years, are pretending to give a fuck about them manchestereveningnews.co.uk/…

Questions need to be asked about Nigel Worthington's non reaction at the back post for the equaliser. Seen more movement in the Statue of Liberty.
I reckon you could find 114 charges of bullshit going Man Utd's way in the Fergie years. It's time to rule out Steve Bruce's injury time header in 93

🚨 Steven Gerrard on Florian Wirtz: “I think his best position is number 10. I don’t think he’s got the speed to play out wide. I’m not sure this Liverpool team is set and ready for Wirtz to come and thrive. “If Liverpool can get Barcola, Isak, Muñoz, Rio and Ekitike all firing and fit, then Wirtz will feel better because he will have more forward runs and better players around him. “His confidence is shot. He’s not playing well enough. I agree with Jamie Carragher to that extent. But I think the boy needs help from the manager, the players and his senior players. He’s a major talent in my opinion. “I think sometimes, if everyone is available, maybe he does need to come out of the team and have a couple of games on the bench. Sometimes watching the team and being gutted that someone else is thriving in your position, that little bit of fear, could help Florian Wirtz. “He needs to do more, but I see a player there. I wouldn’t be giving up on him just yet.” [@ThatsFootballTV] #LFC

How long is the stench of the “sham” going to corrode the meaning, worth, and very essence of the Premier League? Listening to commentary about Manchester City’s players matching the defiance of their ownership and triumphing in adversity. Listening to fans chorusing the names of the men running the club, wearing masks or displaying banners of their faces and jibing: “We’re Man City, we’ll cheat when we want.” Victory being framed as “a lovely moment,” a show of togetherness as though some grave injustice has been imposed on City, rather than their hierarchy being found by an independent commission to have orchestrated financial doping on an industrial scale. Their opponents and the rest of us wondering if any of this actually matters now and how much of it ever did? There can be no business as usual pretence. We need a full stop to the absurdity.

To be fair, on reflection, Liverpool can just say they have irrefutable evidence they won the game.
