No one outside of Louisiana will truly ever understand how much Drew Brees means to this state. When Hurricane Katrina destroyed Louisiana and left us wondering how we would ever recover, this man showed up a year later as we were still cleaning up the devastation. He put New Orleans, and the rest of our broken state, on his back and helped carry us out of the floodwaters. He gave Louisiana something we desperately needed in that moment: hope and unity. Drew Brees may be a Hall of Fame Quarterback to the rest of the country, but to Louisiana, he will always be the man who brought this state back to life. He could have walked away from the brokenness that defined us in that moment, but instead he became our beacon of hope.
