I am delighted that David Thompson has been selected as our Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Maidstone & Malling and, I hope, my successor as the Member of Parliament for this wonderful constituency.
He has the work ethic, integrity and Conservative values needed to continue standing up for local people and addressing the issues that matter most to residents, including excessive housebuilding, illegal immigration and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with development.
My own selection in 2008 gave me valuable time to prepare for the responsibilities of parliamentary and constituency life, and it is only right and fair that David has the same opportunity. I will give him my full support as he engages on the campaign trail with the people, businesses, organisations and community groups that make #Maidstone and #Malling such a special place.
Being the Member of Parliament since 2010 has been the honour of my life. I remain fully committed to serving my constituents until I leave office and look forward to supporting David as he builds on everything we have achieved together over the years.

I’m in Edinburgh and being asked a lot of questions about ITV’s Reform expose.
The reported comments show yet again why we’re not doing deals with Reform. We want Reform voters back, not Reform politicians.
Reform voters are being let down by the people who claim to represent them. Many of these people were the ones who let them down in the Conservative Party. We are now under new management.
These people caused a lot of problems and is why I say Nigel Farage has been doing my spring cleaning.
These problems will keep coming for Reform. Just as Farage is being investigated, so is Robert Jenrick, and so is Richard Tice. These problems will never end because of the kind of people they are - they don’t care about high standards of conduct.
That is why I am showing those voters who want to defeat Labour but left the Conservative Party that it’s time to come home. We are under new management, and you deserve better than this.

Today at #PMQs the Prime Minister has again suffered an evisceration courtesy of @KemiBadenoch. This is Kemi demonstrating true leadership for our nation, which is rightfully outraged by the scandal surrounding interest rates on student loans, and the crisis of youth unemployment.
For all the talk from the Prime Minister about wanting a fairer system for students and graduates, the Labour Government have offered no proposals to achieve that.
The interest on loans must be capped to RPI to create a fairer system for graduates and to challenge the colossal injustice of unfair, crippling interest rates that hike up loans obtained in pursuit of higher education and, ultimately, greater opportunities.
Unlike the government, the @Conservatives have a plan to ease the burden on hundreds of thousands of graduates.

The student loan debt trap is unfair.
It traps graduates into repayments that do nothing to pay the cost of their loans.
So the next Conservative Government will cap the interest at inflation.
