Last month I joked about writing a guide to life after your parents die, and a bunch of you were like, yes, please do that. So I did: deadparentswhatnow.com/
This is weird, but if I put together some kind of “Your Parents Are Dead: What Now?” guide with everything I learn during this depressing paperwork nightmare, would anyone be interested?

Good news: Automakers are finally realizing that car touchscreens are a disaster. Drivers hate them, and they're also dangerously distracting. Buttons and knobs are poised for a comeback. Me, in @Slate slate.com/business/2023/04/c…

We've long discussed the difficulty of folks getting out of the path of end-of-month storms such as Katrina, Laura, #HurricaneIan because of that's when they have the least money and the most bills coming up. 1/x

This (VERY PROFANE) video is up to 144,000 views in about 12 hours. Chattanooga road rage incident from Thursday afternoon. I have a feeling police are "thisclose" to ID'ing this citizen. Amazing video, sound, and pics. Maybe you can help. youtube.com/watch?v=iZB1GtEx…

This lady I know who has had Covid 3 times and still doesn’t mask in public said her reasoning is “She doesn’t live in fear.” What is y’all’s obsession with thinking having no fear is healthy? It’s giving you need to see a therapist.

Tonight in New Orleans, there is no power and the drainage, water and sewer systems are on the brink of collapse after Hurricane Ida washed ashore hours earlier in coastal Louisiana.

Several New Orleans S&WB sewer stations lost power as Ida comes ashore, prompting the utility to ask residents to avoid using washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances that use lots of water to prevent sewage from backing up into homes. nola.com/news/politics/artic…
We have issued an Extreme Wind Warning for Hurricane #Ida. If you are still in LA or MS, you need to shelter in place. Winds will be between 115-150 mph. #mswx #lawx

One last thing before I head in... If in direct path make SURE you have a way to get the extreme wind warning that WILL be issued as #Ida approaches landfall. WHEN you get that warning take shelter as if you're about to get hit by a tornado. Small closet/bathroom, no windows.

In 25 years of TV broadcasting ... I have never presented a more worrisome tropical forecast for the WAFB area. Ida has the potential of being more troublesome than 2008's Gustav, more problematic than 1992's Andrew." Get your final hurricane preps completed ASAP! Jay

I've spent the last month talking to people providing eldercare — esp. people providing care for family members at home. Everyone is so, so tired, and the exhaustion is made worse by how invisible the labor remains: vox.com/the-goods/22639674/e…
