Thank you for this line, @marshalederman: “How it felt to be this smart, talented musician, this icon, with a voice of honey, a heart of gold and a work ethic that would put most of us to shame – and to be talked about with such disrespect. Dismissed so unfairly.”

If anyone is looking for a walk in Calgary, Nose Hill is truly glorious today - blue sky, fluffy clouds, light breeze and snow capped mountains in the distance. There are people standing around and taking photos like tourists.

COLUMN: Even before the US-Iran war, some on the center-left were rethinking their stance on fossil fuels. Can oil drilling be woke again? Yes, it can. I talked to Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson about "all-the-above" energy policy. @Opinion bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

Temporarily lifting the law’s restrictions could reduce pressure on prices by allowing lower-cost foreign tankers to move around the country. The action is poised to cut the $$ of shipping crude from the Gulf to refiners on the US East Coast & gasoline & diesel products the US NE

A masterclass on what's going on:
VIDEO EXPLAINER: The most important map of the Third Gulf War — the oilfields, the Strait of Hormuz, and the bypass pipelines. Plus a look at how, two weeks into the war, Iran is still exporting lots of its oil, and most of it, via the strait. @opinion

A personal note: Dec. 27th was my last day at the Globe and Mail. After a quarter century in newspapers and journalism, I’m leaving to try something different in 2025 - with details to come. Reporting and column-writing have been my life, so this is a tough one. But it’s time to do and learn something new. It’s been my honour to work for @globeandmail, my north star for news and context. The editors, reporters and columnists are incredibly hardworking and smart. And reading the Globe is absolutely necessary for any Canadian trying to understand business, housing, immigration, foreign interference, the arts, politics and the world (not a comprehensive list). I am also forever grateful to have been regularly invited to appear on @CBCNews panels. With amazing hosts, producers and fellow panelists, they have kept me fully engaged in my city and Alberta politics, and attuned to issues in other parts of the country. Long live Canadian mainstream media - I will always be a subscriber and a supporter.

James Bond is stuck in a tug-of-war between the Broccoli family that controls 007 and his new overlords at Amazon: "Former Amazon executives have criticized the company’s approach to development, saying it is overly reliant on calculating risk—based on factors such as an actor’s past performance or what similar titles have done in the marketplace. The idea of casting an unknown in a lead role like Bond is hard to imagine at Amazon, they said." wsj.com/business/media/james… via @WSJ

If you are proud of Canada’s support for Ukraine over the last three years, Chrystia Freeland @cafreeland is the person to thank for that. I am not sure we would have seen the magnitude of response to Russia’s illegal assault on Ukraine without her in the Trudeau government.
