Colorado state has a housing shortage, and Gov. Polis wants to bring everyone to the table to help find solutions because this is a challenge that crosses local boundaries. It’s clear this lawsuit is about preventing more housing from being built that Coloradans can afford.

Excited to share this new report, Best Practices in Parking Management Strategies for Colorado Communities, which details implementation steps and local case studies of parking management strategies like shared parking, unbundling, and curbside management: engagedola.org/25310/widgets…
A big thanks to @NoMerseyHersey and the many planners, affordable housing developers, and other experts and stakeholders who provided their input. We're excited to organize some spaces soon to share the great examples from around Colorado (and the nation) contained in the report.
Required by HB24-1304, the minimum parking requirements law, the report is intended to support local governments in complying with the new law by highlighting strategies to right-size the amount of parking in our communities and manage demand for the parking we have.

Denver just officially legalized Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) aka backyard cottages, granny flats, garage conversions, etc.
Colorado is short 105,000 homes and ADUs are a great way to provide more efficient & affordable housing in existing neighborhoods, close to jobs, shops, and other services.
Shoutout to our state legislators for passing HB-1152 earlier this year, which directs local governments to legalize ADUs by June 2025.

I'm voting Yes on Regional Transportation District Ballot Issue 7A.
RTD offers a critical service in Colorado and we should support both its existing revenue and opportunities to increase funding and transit service in the future.

We're wrapping up #VisionZeroCities day one with e-bikes.
E-bikes can make safe, affordable, low-emissions mobility accessible for millions — but not if they're the enemy.
Thank you to @MillerNuttle, @melindahanson, @HobokenEmily, @kwanimal and Sarah Thorne of @COEnergyOffice.

What's Colorado doing right?
✅ Credits to buy e-bikes, leading to less driving & emissions
✅ Eliminated parking mandates that make housing more expensive
✅ Transit-oriented development, preventing sprawl & protecting green spaces

In Colorado, we’ve eliminated parking minimums within 1/4 mile of transit route that’s served at least once every 30 minutes. Denser urban development combined with more efficient transportation = lower housing costs, lower transportation costs, and less congestion/pollution.

Under current law almost every single family home in Montgomery County could be torn down and replaced with a McMansion
Under a new proposal, almost every single family home in Montgomery County could be torn down and replaced with a duplex, a triplex, four townhomes, or in some cases a small apartment building.
