The igbos needs to start speaking up else a time will come, we won’t be able to defend ourselves anymore… If you are one of those who have lived in the heavily yorugba-dominated parts of Lagos, you will understand what this guy said in this video. There is something I have noticed some yorugba parents do. If their child has Igbo friends, they discourage them from getting too close to Igbo people. Then they start bringing up historical issues, including things that happened before colonialism, and use those stories to shape how the child sees Igbos today. A child will taught from a young age to dislike Igbos without ever having experienced anything personally from an Igbo person. The child grows up carrying that same hatred, and eventually you meet adults who dislike Igbos but cannot even tell you what an Igbo person has personally done to them. This is also one of the reasons I believe Igbos need to speak up more when they experience this kind of thing. If you constantly allow one narrative to dominate the media space, people will eventually hear only one side of the story. If we don’t, a time may come when we will struggle to defend our history, our culture and our traditions.
