Thames Ward Labour Councillors were out in force yesterday for a Mass Canvass across the ward. It was great to be out speaking with residents, listening to their concerns and we also picked up various casework to follow up on. Thank you to all those who attended to support us. – at Reading, England

Residents are being offered a chance to take part in a project to brighten up an underpass that connects Southcote with Prospect Park. A new mural in the Granville pedestrian underpass will feature images of flowers, grasses and trees that grow in the local area and include people’s happy memories and positive words about the community. Members of the public are being invited to contribute to the creation of the mural at Granville underpass on Sunday 4 October, 10am – midday. Anyone who cannot make it, can still play a part by sharing memories of the area, what they love about the community and positive messages on an online form. For more details, visit: rdguk.info/XIUpJ

The second meeting of the traffic management sub-committee in a row with no representation from the Tories was held last night. Discussions on traffic regulation orders, road safety and discretionary parking permits are the order of business. No apologies were received. #tory

We want your help to shape the future of adult social care in Reading. We're developing a new Adult Social Care Strategy for 2026–2031 which will set out our priorities for the next five years and how we will improve support for residents, carers and communities across Reading. We want your views on this, which will help us understand whether the proposed priorities reflect what matters most to local people and whether there are any areas we should strengthen before the strategy is finalised. Given the fuss Cllr Singh made in Kentwood about yellow lines in recent times, it was surprising that neither he nor his Tory colleague could be bothered to take their seats at this evening’s traffic committee to represent their respective residents, nor give their apologies.

Clarification to the above, as of 1155 today, I have received information that Cllr Singh did indeed send his apologies on 8th June. I would therefore like to correct that part of the record. This was not the information I was given on the night and I apologise to Cllr Singh.

Our new children's library will be bigger, brighter and better than before with more books, games and activities. There will be more room for rhyme and story time, to share a book in a cosy corner or choose something new to read. The new Central Library in the Civic Centre, Bridge St, opens next Thursday, 18 June. Come and start your child's love for reading which could last a lifetime. Great Western Railways services will transfer into public ownership from 13 December 2026. This is another significant moment as this Labour government continues to bring our railway back into public ownership and put passengers first, not shareholders.
