I found a woman for one of my clients -- a really great match.
Well-aligned on faith, same timeline on kids, same money habits, same principles on how to raise a family. He matched her preferences, she matched his. Physical attraction seemed strong. He out-earned what she was hoping for. She was warm, funny, athletic, and wanted to be a mom.
Neither of them had a single dealbreaker on paper.
Then she mentioned she's allergic to soybeans.
He's a soybean farmer.

People often complain when we don't give them a match. It goes something like, "I get sooo many matches on Hinge and still haven't gotten a Keeper one!"
You are still single. Hinge did not give you a single match either. It gave you a lot of people it called matches. They weren't.

Hinge tried to acquire Keeper.
Mid-diligence I got a stern call. They'd read our blog and didn't like that it was pro-marriage. They felt that was a value judgment they weren't comfortable making.
We had a few weeks of cash left. We said we'd rather die than work for these guys. We weren't going to apologize for believing marriage is a good thing.
We survived. Hinge's founder later left to start his own AI matchmaker. Now everyone is building them. We have a three-year head start.

Super articulate description of what many of us know, but have a hard time putting into words.
The concept of “the costume” or as I’ve always called it, “the mask” is so interesting to me in the sense of I’m not sure if women know about it, or that every man is wearing one to some extent. Independent of that potential awareness (or lack thereof), it seems as if they always want it on, at least in courtship, which is a rule I set for myself on dates, yet rarely follow.
