Elon Musk can't help himself when it comes to tweeting, and his opinions on many matters are gross and/or deeply misguided, and thus him owning Twitter and taking all the guardrails off it has come back to bite him once again. sfist.com/2023/11/17/elon-mu…

Cormac McCarthy has died at the age of 89. In 2012, we detailed what we learned from the Cormac McCarthy Papers. The archives gave us a unique look inside the working method of an artist who spoke little about his own work. slate.trib.al/Gev8BWD

Talk shit about the “decline” of San Francisco all you want but the vibes of taking a day off and enjoying a pint at Zeitgeist on a sunny Monday are still unbeatable and unchanged after 20 years.

Sam Altman says he wants to be regulated—and he wants you to believe AI could destroy the world. We're in the middle of a hype cycle. Here's why you should be skeptical about the entire conversation
Open A.I. CEO Sam Altman is testifying as lawmakers grapple with this intelligence: @jayobtv: "He wants their help to regulate this technology." @thomasgermain: we haven't seen A.I "capable of replacing human critical thinking...I don't think it's quite time to panic, yet."

this investigation is sweeping and so horrific; it includes literal children who work as garment workers in Los Angeles, where they stitch “Made in America” tags into J. Crew shirts
The US is seeing an unprecedented wave of migrant child labor right now. Thousands of kids are working overnight in dangerous factories for brands like Cheerios, Fruit of the Loom and Ford. They're here alone and they're being failed in the most basic way.nytimes.com/2023/02/25/us/un…

Since last year the lovely donations have been trickling in, but as fees have been building up again, the situation is increasingly desperate. Thank you for all your overwhelming generosity, your kind words, and your love and support 💕 gofundme.com/f/alexnorrisleg…

Super grateful that I seem to be recovering from covid w/ no lasting effects (so far, that I can tell). Real test will be when I start exercising again in a few weeks. Cannot overstate how useful having a smart watch + actively monitoring heart rate has been in my recovery.

Being able to notice and track when my heart rate was spiking, and using that as an indicator to lay the fuck back down on the couch was probably the only reason I actually got enough rest while sick. Rest is critical for good covid recovery, quantifying it even more so!

I use a Garmin Swim2, because I am a lunatic that does open water swimming and rowing when I'm in better health and making handy GPS tracks of my routes is super important to me. But there are cheaper, equally good options.

While I'm grateful my COVID case is definitely on the mild side, holy shit - not being able to taste or smell anything is a special kind of bullshit. Much harder psychologically than anything I'm feeling physically.
