The FIFA World Cup begins on June 11 and this year the United States is co-hosting! ⚽️🏟️
We sat down with GVSU anthropology professor Tara Hefferan to learn what it means for the US and how hosting the World Cup differs from other major sporting events:

We honor the lives we lost 23 years ago today. We're forever grateful for the bravery of the flight crews, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, DOT employees, transportation workers, and other first responders who stepped up to help each other in the face of terrorism.
Great memories of this place, but much of it already seemed very dated when I attended 30 years ago. Go Broncos! Excited to see the progress.
Great national coverage by @insidehighered of @GVSU Omni and its work to up-skill Michigan adults with degree completion, certificates and badges. Thanks for reporting this story @lauren__coffey

Louie and Brutus are ready for game day! In preparation for this Saturday's showdown against Ferris State, these friendly rivals spent the day showing each other around their campuses! Let’s show each other respect this weekend as we battle it out on the field! Anchor Up! ⚓
Would be interesting to count lost productivity on Zoom calls from low-quality PC mics. Never seem to have this issue with people on modern Macs. "Matt, you're breaking up. Turn your head."
If you read one story today, make it this one. #dogs #puremichigan
A dog kept escaping an animal shelter in northern Michigan and sneaking into a nursing home, even after being sent back. So the nurses there had a decision to make. In today's Detroit Free Press: bit.ly/485wb8H
Reported an account spamming a #FB page I help manage with bogus merch links. #FB did nothing. When appealed, it blamed COVID (seriously?) for a lack of people to review reports a 2nd time. This election season could be a doozy. #Election2024
Do you remember when you joined X? No? I don’t either. I did join Twitter 15 years ago, though, and X wants credit for all those years. #MyXAnniversary #MyTwitterAnniversary

It was a conversation with retired Grand Valley professor Kathleen Blumreich that first led Justice Kyra Harris Bolden ’10 to apply to law school. ⚖️ Now, she is the first Black woman to sit on Michigan’s Supreme Court. Read more of Justice Bolden’s story: gvsu.edu/s/2nv
