Real sad loss here. I had many debates with Ken Krawetz over the years, often not quiet debates. Also many warm personal conversations, and the opportunity to work together for example with the Ukrainian Canadian community.
On behalf of a grateful party, government and province, I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family and many, many friends of former MLA, opposition leader, minister and Deputy Premier Ken Krawetz, one of the founding members of the Saskatchewan Party.   This one hurts a lot.  In any room Ken was in, whether as a teacher, school board trustee, opposition or government caucus member, cabinet minister or at the kitchen table talking to a constituent, Ken was always the guy who brought the logic, integrity, compassion and common sense to arrive at the right decision.   Ken loved his community.  He loved his province.  He loved serving his province.  He loved his friends and he loved his family more than anything.  He even loved the Toronto Maple Leafs.  His big heart struggled at times, but it was only because he shared pieces of it with so many.   Flags at the Legislature will be lowered to half-mast in honour of Ken Krawetz.

Look, I’ve been reading some of these hot takes about Danielle Smith and the whole "separatist fire" narrative, and honestly? It’s a bit rich. People like @kinsellawarren in their ivory towers love to talk about "dangerous rhetoric," but out here in the real world, where we’re actually building things, creating jobs, and trying to keep the lights on, it looks a lot different. Calling this a "fire" implies something accidental or that Smith is just out there with a match for the fun of it. That’s just not true. If there’s heat, it’s because the federal government has been turning up the temperature on Alberta for years. When you keep squeezing the province that’s supposed to be the engine of the country, don’t act surprised when people start looking for the emergency exit. And let’s talk about this obsession with labelling everything "radical." Since when is giving people a voice a bad thing? Whether you’re talking about the Alberta Sovereignty Act or simply pushing back on federal overreach, it’s not about burning the house down. It’s about standing up for the people who pay the bills. If you’re a builder, you know that when the foundation is cracked, you fix it; you don’t just pretend the house is fine because you don’t like the sound of the drilling. The media likes to paint this as some fringe movement, but you talk to everyday folks at the job site or the grocery store, and they’re tired of being ignored. Smith isn’t creating these feelings; she’s just not afraid to acknowledge them. That’s what leadership looks like to a lot of us. It’s not about separation for the sake of it; it’s about making sure Alberta doesn't get left holding the bag while Ottawa keeps moving the goalposts. At the end of the day, we just want a fair shake. Stop the fear-mongering, stop the condescending lectures from Down East, and start respecting the fact that Albertans are smart enough to decide their own future. That’s the real conversation we should be having.
KINSELLA: Danielle Smith started a fire and Alberta -- and Canada -- will suffer for it torontosun.com/opinion/colum…

🇨🇦❄️🛩️ : Conservative MPs cry foul over rumors the Liberal government is shelving the iconic Snowbirds precision flight team. The Liberals spent millions on gender affirming rice in Vietnam, but Liberals can't fund and maintain one of our most iconic and important national symbols? Do you care if the snowbirds are grounded indefinitely?

Save Our Snowbirds 🇨🇦🛩️
The #Snowbirds display Canada's pride & international reputation for precision & high military standards. Shamefully, Liberals are preparing to cancel the team after the 2026 season. This is the wrong choice. The Snowbirds must continue to be the souls of our Canadian military.

It was my 27th time testifying in Ottawa yesterday, but my first before the House Affairs Committee. I explained what happened with La Presse, and how my 25-year collaboration with the paper was halted following personal comments I made about how public funding may be influencing editorial decisions across the country. I never once criticized La Presse itself—yet here we are. In Ottawa, several witnesses, including Peter Menzies, former editor of the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun, expressed similar concerns. Something needs to change. The public is not being properly informed about critical issues affecting agriculture, food security, affordability, and more. No media would report on this today, for obvious reasons. Very few media outlets examined how counter-tariffs impacted food prices. It took the U.S. Ambassador to Canada—an American—to acknowledge that Canada was in breach of CUSMA, not our own media. Prime Minister Mark Carney eliminated those counter-tariffs shortly afterward. It also took three full days before anyone asked where the $14 billion would come from to fund the grocery benefit program. Media are not to blame—they are doing their best under tremendous pressure. Public funding for media is not inherently the problem. The issue is that funding private media has become partisan, and that, in my view, makes a significant difference. After 25 years, I can say something has changed—dramatically—and it is not good for our democracy.

One of the coolest initiatives we’ve done at the City of Weyburn is our Youth Council. This week SUMA recognized that work at the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards. Proud of our young leaders and all that they’ve done for our City - and what I believe they’ll do in the future.

I’ve reached the point most people hit right before systems fail. The point where facts stop working. Charts don’t matter. Reports don’t matter. Evidence doesn’t matter. You can post receipts until your fingers cramp and political partisans will still clap, chant, and rationalize while the house fills with smoke. They are not misinformed. They are committed. And commitment beats reality every time. That’s where Canada is now. The Liberals and the NDP no longer govern with outcomes in mind. They govern with narratives. If the story sounds compassionate, the damage underneath is waved away as acceptable collateral. Housing explodes. Healthcare buckles. Food banks flood. Productivity sinks. And if you point to any of it, you’re told to be kinder, quieter, or more patient. Patience is a luxury people without power can’t afford. What scares me isn’t just the policies. It’s the psychology. We are watching a ruling class that confuses control with competence and optics with success. Every failure is met with more management, more spending, more moral language, and less accountability. When reality resists, they don’t change course. They tighten. That’s where Mark Carney enters the picture, and why he should worry anyone paying attention. Carney doesn’t speak like a democratic leader. He speaks like a risk officer explaining why losses are necessary. “Sacrifice.” “Stability.” “Confidence.” These are not solutions. They are words used when the model is failing but the managers refuse to admit it. In his world, the problem is never the plan. It’s public resistance to the plan. That mindset is poison in a democracy. The Liberals broke affordability and papered it over with subsidies. The NDP cheered and demanded more of the same. Now Carney offers to professionalize the decline. Smoother language. Tighter controls. Bigger levers. Less dissent. He doesn’t promise prosperity. He promises management. Here’s the part people don’t want to hear. You can’t fix a country by overruling its citizens. You can’t tax, regulate, borrow, and moralize your way out of shortages. You can’t feed kids, house families, or staff hospitals with press releases. And when governments start treating criticism as a threat rather than a warning, history tells us what comes next. Not reform. Hardening. Surveillance language. Emergency logic. Ever broader definitions of “harm.” Ever fewer off ramps. This is how civilizations don’t collapse in a bang. They collapse in meetings. I don’t expect to convince partisans anymore. That window is gone. This is a warning, not an argument. If you are still cheering while food banks replace paycheques, while hospitals ration care, while housing becomes a privilege, while leaders talk about sacrifice without ever naming their own, understand this: they are not fiddling while Rome burns. They are insisting the fire is necessary. And once that belief sets in, facts won’t save us. Only consequences will. By then, our children are already in the smoke.
