You call yourself the only member of Congress who held an H-1B, then use that badge to defend Microsoft’s access to permanent labor certification. PERM is not a family reunion program. By law it exists to prove no qualified American is available. Today the Labor Department froze new and pending PERM filings by Microsoft, Adobe, and the major outsourcing firms after investigations into abuse. Vance’s count: about 6,000 Microsoft layoffs last year, about 6,300 H-1B approvals, and nearly 3,000 green-card filings. Your statement never mentions those American workers that lost their jobs and livelihoods. You have represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017. Name a law you passed that put a displaced American engineer ahead of another PERM slot. You do not represent “tens of thousands of Microsoft workers” as a client list. Microsoft’s campus is in Redmond, not your district. Your oath runs to the citizens who elect you. Your seat belongs to American citizens. Defending more foreign workers after American layoffs is a breach of that trust, not a reform.
