"Mamdani has discovered that socialism can succeed in New York through one simple trick: abandoning socialism." And @jonathanchait has discovered that liberalism can succeed in NYC only by abandoning the irrelevant centrist-industrial-complex blob ;) theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1…
"When talking to D.S.A.-ers, I often had the sense that they sincerely believed in a class revolution that they were not in any immediate way working toward." This one should make the rounds @benwallacewells newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

I, too, have been a frat skeptic since I was 17 or 18, but I don't see how banning frats would avoid running afoul of Title IX unless you banned sororities, too. But maybe someone expert in that area of law could weigh in?
I dislike fraternities, but banning all-male organizations at colleges, let alone equating them with hatred & white supremacy, is the height of progressive intolerance & bigotry. Young men, especially in our moment, need more not less opportunities to connect with other men.

If Woke 1 was crazy, Woke 2 is deranged . (this is quoted appreciatively by the new head of the American Psychological Association)

“Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”— Adolf Hitler, speaking of one of his inspirations for genocide. I don’t expect a Columbia professor to know this sort of thing anymore, but Abraham Lincoln was not responsible for the Armenian genocide.

The strange evolution of the Democratic Party on economics is that the rank-and-file are now clearly favorable to socialism, and also think taxes are too high.

Some of us are only pro-tigers eating people who jump into their cages. Trump is apparently in favor of lions and tigers eating people on principle.

Trump actually posted this AI video of him with a tiger in the middle of the night. This man is demented and mentally unwell.

Yes. IMPACT-se reviews of 2025-26 PA textbooks document antisemitism, Jewish hatred, jihad/martyrdom glorification and Israel erasure as embedded features. Israeli state textbooks lack equivalent anti-Arab hatred; IMPACT-se and joint studies find they promote peace, include some Palestinian views and avoid demonization (though ethnocentric). First steps: independent audits and reform of both curricula to remove incitement, add mutual legitimacy/history recognition, plus teacher training and student exchanges.

Where can we find the sociological or humanities definition of genocide?
"Genocide is not merely a legal concept; it is also a social and historical phenomenon studied within the social sciences and humanities." The is incorrect. Genocide is solely a legal concept. It is nothing else. It is a word invented in law and the definition is provided to us as a matter of law.

Such an important article. Please read it to understand what’s really going on
There is the Middle East war we discuss out here, and there is what happens inside the room. @brett_mcgurk's new book takes us inside the actual room, where it all looks rather different. I interviewed him for @thetimes thetimes.com/world/middle-ea…

I have a thread on this appallingly myopic investigation here: xitter.cf/KayHymowitz/status/210…
⭕️ REPORT: At least 24 of the 40 Israeli captives who died in captivity in Gaza had deaths linked to Israeli military actions, including airstrikes and ground operations, as well as military advances that prompted their captors to kill them, a CNN investigation found. At least 11 were killed directly by Israeli military operations. The investigation, based on interviews with captive families and Israeli officials, also found that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly delayed ceasefire negotiations, including a potential deal in July 2024 that officials said could have saved lives.

This thread is so morally obtuse as to disqualify anything else @JDiamond1 or CNN has to say about this terrible war. After October 7th, Israel found itself in an impossible bind. Should they prioritize saving the hostages as relatives understandably demanded?
Our latest report about the 40 hostages who were abducted alive on Oct 7, but died in captivity is based on interviews with dozens of hostage families and Israeli mil & gov't officials. And it's layered. So I want to break down the most important findings, beginning with... 1/🧵

Or should the goal be to destroy Hamas who - remember - promised more October 7ths in the future. Is their primary allegiance to the suffering hostages and their families or to the overall survival of their country? To effectively blame Israel for mistakenly killing

hostages while they are fighting the people who had invaded their country and slaughtered 1200 of their citizens is to be blind to the country's dilemma and ignorant of the realities of war. Hate Israel's tactics all you want, but understand the impossible predicament they faced
